{"id":28739,"date":"2025-07-01T02:45:16","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T02:45:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/28739\/"},"modified":"2025-07-01T02:45:16","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T02:45:16","slug":"tnt-sports-delivers-energetic-dark-visual-identity-for-nascar-return-ncs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/28739\/","title":{"rendered":"TNT Sports delivers energetic, dark visual identity for NASCAR return &#8211; NCS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tSubscribe to NCS for the latest news, project case studies and product announcements in <strong>broadcast technology<\/strong>, <strong>creative design<\/strong> and <strong>engineering<\/strong> delivered to your inbox.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscaststudio.com\/tag\/tnt-sports\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TNT Sports<\/a> completed its return to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscaststudio.com\/tag\/nascar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NASCAR<\/a> coverage with a bold visual statement, debuting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscaststudio.com\/graphics\/nascar-on-tnt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its \u201cBlack Octane\u201d graphics package<\/a> during the network\u2019s first Cup Series race in 11 years.<\/p>\n<p>The design, developed through a collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newscaststudio.com\/designers\/big-studios\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Big Studios<\/a>, represents a departure from traditional NASCAR broadcast graphics, combining dark aesthetics with vibrant color accents in an attempt to carve out distinct visual territory in an increasingly competitive NASCAR broadcast landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan Shorthouse, vice president and creative director at TNT Sports, worked with Big Studios to create what he described as \u201cfast, contemporary, sprinkled with a dash of nostalgia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-full\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NCS_NASCAR-TNT-2025_graphics_0007.jpg\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-full\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NCS_NASCAR-TNT-2025_graphics_0033.jpg\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The partnership focused on bringing the world of NASCAR into the world of TNT Sports \u2013 dark, gritty and full of energy. A virtual track and garage were created, with the design playing with light and shadow, mixing pops of light with realistic 3D elements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe obviously always aim to stand out from the rest of our broadcast partners,\u201d Shorthouse said in an interview with NCS ahead of TNT\u2019s debut at Atlanta Motor Speedway. \u201cWe wanted to make sure that coverage stood out, but we also wanted to make sure that the package, first and foremost, felt credible to the fans.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>The visual strategy reflects TNT Sports\u2019 broader challenge of differentiating itself in a crowded field while also matching the uniqueness of the TNT brand.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"MzQ4LDE5LDEsNjA=\" href=\"https:\/\/sam.audio\/newscast-world-leader-winter-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img class=\"lazy lazy-hidden\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/SAM25-FeaturedProjects-Winter-300by250-v1.gif\" style=\"width:auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amazon Prime Video raised expectations with its NASCAR debut earlier this year, while NBC and Fox Sports have maintained consistent coverage for years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmazon debuted their package\u2026 and they\u2019ve certainly raised the bar. We\u2019ve always respected what NBC has done with their coverage over the years. So we knew the bar was high,\u201d Shorthouse said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-full\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NCS_NASCAR-TNT-2025_graphics_0043.jpg\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-full\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NCS_NASCAR-TNT-2025_graphics_0040.jpg\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cBlack Octane\u201d package features predominantly dark color schemes punctuated by bright accents designed to complement the various team colors and car paint schemes visible during races. The approach creates visual cohesion without overwhelming the on-track action or conflicting with sponsor branding.<\/p>\n<p>TNT Sports maintained familiar elements in its scoring pylon and insert graphics, recognizing fan sensitivity to dramatic changes in essential race information.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t go too crazy with that,\u201d Shorthouse said. \u201cWe added our own little design style to it, but for the most part, it\u2019s in the same place, animates and functions similar to what you\u2019ve seen in the past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-full\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NCS_NASCAR-TNT-2025_graphics_0020.jpg\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-full\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NCS_NASCAR-TNT-2025_graphics_0030.jpg\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-full\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NCS_NASCAR-TNT-2025_graphics_0031.jpg\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Max also uses the same scoring insert system for its exclusive streaming coverage of onboard cameras, branded as \u201cNASCAR Driver Cam.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>TNT Sports previously covered NASCAR from 2001 to 2014, establishing memorable visual and musical signatures that became synonymous with the coverage. The network\u2019s return carries significant nostalgic weight for longtime NASCAR fans who remember its distinctive approach to motorsports broadcasting.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"gofollow\" data-track=\"MzY1LDIyLDEsNjA=\" href=\"https:\/\/sam.audio\/3gza9lov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><img class=\"lazy lazy-hidden\" decoding=\"async\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Vault25-300by250-v1.gif\" style=\"width:auto;\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was part of the team that used to build those packages back in the day as a young designer,\u201d Shorthouse reflected. \u201cCovering those six races during the summer was always exciting, and so for us, this is so sweet to be reunited with the NASCAR family after so many years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The design also is built to support\u00a0TNT Sports\u2019 coverage of NASCAR\u2019s new in-season tournament format, which features head-to-head driver matchups across five consecutive races. The tournament concept, offering a $1 million prize, represents NASCAR\u2019s attempt to create additional storylines and fan engagement during the traditional summer ratings period.<\/p>\n<p>For this, TNT Sports has created an alternate broadcast on TruTV specifically focused on the tournament format, featuring commentary from Larry McReynolds and Jeff Burton. The altcast approach allows for deeper focus on individual driver matchups while the main TNT broadcast covers traditional race coverage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-full wp-image-144084\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NCS_NASCAR-TNT-2025_graphics_0059.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazy lazy-hidden alignnone size-full\" data-lazy-type=\"image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NCS_NASCAR-TNT-2025_graphics_0035.jpg\" width=\"1600\" height=\"900\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a perfect exercise for our altcast coverage. It\u2019s almost tailor-made for it,\u201d Shorthouse said of the tournament format, which draws inspiration from successful in-season tournaments in other sports, particularly the NBA\u2019s midseason tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The production of TNT\u2019s five-week NASCAR package includes resources similar to those typically deployed for a full-season sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though it\u2019s packed into five weeks, our treatment of it, the elements that we deliver, the amount of elements that we build for this is equal to what we would do for an MLB regular season or NBA,\u201d Shorthouse noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just excited to see this package. It seems like forever ago, and we\u2019ve gone through our season of sports,\u201d Shorthouse added. \u201cAnd finally, finally, finally, we\u2019re here at our first race in Atlanta\u2026 All the anticipation\u2019s been built, and we\u2019re ready to start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>TNT Sports\u2019 NASCAR coverage continues through the Brickyard 400 at the end of July, with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Steve Letarte and Adam Alexander in the broadcast brooth.<\/p>\n<p>The network\u2019s return represents a homecoming to a sport that helped define its summer programming identity for over a decade.
