Police arrested San Antonio\u2019s \u201cdopest lawyer\u201d over the weekend on charges of \u2014 wait for it \u2013 drug possession and drunk driving, according to court records obtained by MySA<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Authorities took attorney Daniel Mehler of the Mehler Cannabis Law firm into custody late Friday after a neighbor called to report a man driving through the neighborhood and throwing things at a nearby house, according to a blood draw warrant cited by the news outlet. <\/p>\n

Police made contact with Mehler, who told them he was upset because his girlfriend, who lives in the neighborhood, wouldn\u2019t see him, MySA reports. <\/p>\n

Mehler, who was slurring his words, refused to participate in a field sobriety test, according to the news site. He reportedly tried to play off his slurred diction by telling cops he had a speech impediment.<\/p>\n

Police also detected a strong odor of alcohol on Mehler, and he was unable to remain steady on his feet, MySA reports. Authorities placed him under arrest and charged him with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and a felony drug possession charge, according to the story. <\/p>\n

Citing court documents, MySA reports that Mehler was carrying 20 units of a Schedule 1-A drug. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Police later filed a warrant for a blood draw, but were unable to take a sample until more than two hours after Mehler\u2019s arrest, according to the publication. He was released Sunday after posting bond.<\/p>\n

The weekend encounter with SAPD isn\u2019t Mehler\u2019s first run-in with the law.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The attorney was arrested last year and charged <\/a>with sexual assault, family violence and violating a protective order. However, all those charges were eventually dismissed due to insufficient evidence.\u00a0<\/p>\n
