{"id":287544,"date":"2025-10-08T21:42:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T21:42:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/287544\/"},"modified":"2025-10-08T21:42:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T21:42:09","slug":"no-23-emily-mcdonald-commits-to-kentucky-womens-basketball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/287544\/","title":{"rendered":"No. 23 Emily McDonald commits to Kentucky women&#8217;s basketball"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/high-school\/girls-basketball\/recruiting\/player\/_\/id\/265559\/emily-mcdonald\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emily McDonald<\/a>, the No. 23 recruit in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/high-school\/girls-basketball\/recruiting\/rankings\/scnext100girls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">girls&#8217; SC Next 100 class of 2026<\/a>, has committed to <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"7b8166a0-b6df-d465-7e16-64d5933ba54c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/96\/kentucky-wildcats\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kentucky<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DPkANC2Eoex\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">she announced<\/a> Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald is the third top commitment in the class for coach Kenny Brooks, following No. 13 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/high-school\/girls-basketball\/recruiting\/player\/_\/id\/254715\/maddyn-greenway\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maddyn Greenway<\/a> and No. 19 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/high-school\/girls-basketball\/recruiting\/player\/_\/id\/254716\/savvy-swords\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Savvy Swords<\/a>, McDonald&#8217;s Long Island Lutheran teammate.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I chose Kentucky because there aren&#8217;t many coaches that develop their players like Coach Brooks,&#8221; McDonald told ESPN. &#8220;I feel their style of play matches how I play perfectly. Overall, it felt like home on my official visit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The 6-foot guard from Glen Head, New York, chose the Wildcats over numerous options, including <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"f136e3f6-bfeb-c813-7b33-9e873ff1eda1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/2579\/south-carolina-gamecocks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">South Carolina<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"f430852b-8bf3-6f5f-f713-a28d18e7697d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/26\/ucla-bruins\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UCLA<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"3f4fa041-bfb1-d8d9-663b-64b40a6b2263\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/130\/michigan-wolverines\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michigan<\/a> and <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"db29f580-ff0c-6f2c-0fde-7ce7e276cbe8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/153\/north-carolina-tar-heels\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">North Carolina<\/a>. She has been steadily rising up the ESPN rankings, most recently jumping from No. 39 after a strong showing on the independent Power 24 circuit this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The combination of Greenway, Swords and McDonald gives Kentucky a complete backcourt look in the 2026 recruiting class.<\/p>\n<p>McDonald is a skilled shooter, with the ability to read the defense to find open shot opportunities and the advanced handle to create her own shot as well.<\/p>\n<p>Greenway, a speedy point guard, committed to the Wildcats in November 2024, choosing them over <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"9bed1254-7827-ba24-ba79-d07a473d1591\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/2294\/iowa-hawkeyes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iowa<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"0b5ffae8-a6ca-0e67-0cd5-81c5531527f8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/150\/duke-blue-devils\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Duke<\/a>, <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"a5fb2ce6-a590-7d20-8707-915a5d1cb24c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/228\/clemson-tigers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Clemson<\/a>, UCLA and <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"7fadb11c-86d6-4d16-b273-4948586be788\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/24\/stanford-cardinal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stanford<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Swords, the younger sister of Michigan sophomore star <a data-player-guid=\"a40accc6-bed2-39f2-85e3-8a5f753a5600\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/player\/_\/id\/5240185\/syla-swords\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Syla Swords<\/a>, is a forward with perimeter skill but the physicality and versatility to rebound and bang inside. She made her commitment in June over finalists South Carolina, UCLA, Michigan and <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"9c673bdd-f47a-6f63-d65a-b117e3b75b81\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/womens-college-basketball\/team\/_\/id\/87\/notre-dame-fighting-irish\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Notre Dame<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The trio fit Kentucky stylistically because they can all shoot the ball.
