(WPDE) \u2014 A new mental health facility has opened its doors in Conway, aiming to address the pressing need for mental health resources in the county.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Greenzweig of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meetradial.com\/conway\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.meetradial.com\/conway\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">Radial Conway<\/a> highlighted the challenges faced by the community.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Mental health care is broken and we&#8217;re here to fix that,&#8221; Greenzweig said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He noted that the rapid population growth in recent years has exacerbated the shortage of mental health resources, which were already insufficient.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, South Carolina has 16 state run community-based mental health centers and inpatient psychiatric treatment in three state hospitals serving 46 counties. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/mhanational.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024-State-of-Mental-Health-in-America-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/mhanational.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/2024-State-of-Mental-Health-in-America-Report.pdf\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;2024 State of Mental Health in America&#8221; <\/a>report ranked South Carolina 49th out of 50 states and D.C. for access to mental health care, a concerning statistic given that at least 20% of South Carolinians have faced a mental health crisis. <\/p>\n<p><strong>READ NEXT: <a href=\"https:\/\/wpde.com\/news\/local\/meta-alan-wilson-state-attorney-generals-hamas-israel-facebook-instagram-footage-terrorist-murders-october-7-attack-violent-policy-uploaded-palestine\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/wpde.com\/news\/local\/meta-alan-wilson-state-attorney-generals-hamas-israel-facebook-instagram-footage-terrorist-murders-october-7-attack-violent-policy-uploaded-palestine\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\">Meta scrutinized by State AGs: allegedly fails to block violent, terrorist content<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Greenzweig emphasized the facility&#8217;s goal.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Our goal is to help people before they get anywhere near that level of crisis,&#8221; Greenzweig said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The new facility in Conway offers services targeting anxiety, PTSD, and depression, with innovative technology like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) playing a key role. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;TMS is an incredibly small helmet that targets the specific circuits in the brain where things like depression and anxiety live.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While TMS has been available for years, expanded insurance coverage has made it more accessible. <\/p>\n<p>In Horry County, the nonprofit<a href=\"https:\/\/www.livingwaterclinics.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"https:\/\/www.livingwaterclinics.com\/\" class=\"themeColorForLinks\" rel=\"noopener\"> Living Water<\/a> provides resources for uninsured individuals to cover the treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The new facility, located on Main Street in Conway, was welcomed by city leaders, the Conway Chamber of Commerce and the community during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. <\/p>\n<p>Radial opened its first location in Myrtle Beach in 2024.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"HORRY COUNTY, S.C.
