The teeny primate named Ava escaped during the annual Crappie Classic and Fall Fest in Eutawville Saturday, sparking a frantic search with even the mayor and town clerk joining in, The Post and Courier reported.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cWe always say Eutawville festivals bring something unique \u2014 and this year is no exception!\u201d the town said in a statement.<\/p>\n Eutawville<\/a> town clerk Casey Hill, mayor Brandon Weatherford and his wife, Laura, banded together to find and rescue little Ava and eventually found the monkey hanging around a vehicle by a barbershop. <\/p>\n \u201cShe was hollering,\u201d Hill told the local outlet.<\/p>\n \u201cYou could tell she was scared.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Hill and the Weatherfords eventually chased the spider monkey to the First National Bank of South Carolina.<\/p>\n Thinking quickly, Hill put a cup of hot coffee on the ground, removing the lid and allowing the sweet odor to tempt Ava.<\/p>\n The plan went off without a hitch as the curious monkey came over to investigate the bean juice. <\/p>\n As soon as she did, Hill stepped onto the long leash Ava was wearing, keeping her in place.<\/p>\n Ava\u2019s owner was located and the pair was reunited, local officials said.<\/p>\n Spider monkeys are named for their habit of dangling from trees using their long tails. <\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n They are among the 25 most threatened primates in the world<\/a>, according to the\u00a0Wildlife Conservation Society<\/a>\u00a0(WCS).<\/p>\n Not all variations of the monkeys are protected under the Endangered Species Act, with the simians currently legal to own in South Carolina without a permit. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Quit monkeying around.
