(Photo by Chris Stone\/Times of San Diego)<\/p>\n<p>San Diego leaders announced Wednesday the opening of the application period for the city\u2019s 2026-27 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.gov\/economic-development\/cultural-affairs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">arts and culture funding opportunities<\/a> intended to support local nonprofit organizations and projects.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are due by 8 a.m. Nov. 13.<\/p>\n<p>The annual arts and culture program is funded by the Transient Occupancy Tax paid by visitors staying in hotels, motels and other accommodations in the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe city\u2019s funding strengthens a dynamic and diverse arts and culture ecosystem,\u201d Christina Bibler, city economic development director, said in a statement. \u201cThrough investments in our local organizations and the artists and cultural workforce they employ and engage, we expand San Diego\u2019s economy and strengthen the cultural and creative sectors that benefit our residents and visitors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In July, the San Diego Economic Development Department\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiego.gov\/economic-development\/cultural-affairs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Division of Cultural Affairs<\/a> announced more than $11.3 million in funding for arts, culture and creativity, allocated to 189 nonprofit organizations for fiscal year 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the launch of our arts and culture funding opportunities for fiscal year 2027, the city reaffirms its commitment to strategic investments in the cultural and creative sector that not only generate jobs and boost the local economy, but also expand access to arts and cultural experiences,\u201d said Christine E.
