Andra Day says she\u2019s broke and facing eviction \u2014 all because of her former manager\u2019s \u201cgreed,\u201d according to a new lawsuit.<\/p>\n

The Oscar-nominated actress and singer claims in the filing that she can\u2019t even pay her minimum credit card payment after music biz exec Jeff Evans was \u201ccaught red-handed\u201d stealing from her.<\/p>\n

Evans sued the \u201cUnited States vs. Billie Holiday\u201d star earlier this week, claiming that she breached their contract and that she owes him nearly a million dollars.<\/p>\n

But Day filed a countersuit, slamming Evans as \u201ca faithless fiduciary\u201d who scammed Day \u201cwith blindless greed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe siphoned so much money from Day \u2014 a quadruple-platinum hitmaker and Golden Globe Best actress winner <\/a>\u2014 that he left her facing eviction, unable to pay the monthly minimum on her credit card debt, and without sufficient funds to tour,\u201d the lawsuit alleges.<\/p>\n

Day is known for her inspirational 2015 song \u201cRise Up.\u201d<\/a> <\/p>\n

In 2021, her role as Billie Holiday in \u201cThe United States vs. Billie Holiday\u201d earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress and a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars. <\/p>\n

She starred alongside Glenn Close in Lee Daniels\u2019 Netflix thriller \u201cThe Deliverance\u201d last year.<\/p>\n

Day was introduced to Evans by Stevie Wonder\u2019s wife, and signed a deal with his Buskin Records and BassLine Management in 2011. <\/p>\n

They have been embroiled in financial disputes for years, with Day ultimately terminating her relationship with BassLine in March, according to Evan\u2019s lawsuit.<\/p>\n

Evans\u2019 suit also claims they\u2019re \u201cowed a minimum of $850,000\u201d in back payments from \u201cThe Deliverance\u201d and a percentage of her publishing advances.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Day\u2019s lawyers countered in her suit that \u201cthe Buskin Defendants have admitted to failing to pay Day [at least] $575,486.00\u201d and that she \u201cbelieves this amount is significantly more.\u201d<\/p>\n
