Lashrecse Aird, according to his social media posts.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiscuc500083b6nouup0tmt@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Top Democrats declined to call on him to withdraw with early voting already underway and more than 421,000 Virginians having already cast their ballot, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vpap.org%2Felections%2Fearly-voting%2F2025-november-general-election%2F&amp;data=05%7C02%7Crashard.rose%40cnn.com%7Ce7139b205ff7408a5ecc08de06d7111b%7C0eb48825e8714459bc72d0ecd68f1f39%7C0%7C0%7C638955717954411437%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=C9FqGZyhynq8fFXfzDrKaJadlGRMSuMaCXqYGOq95zo%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Virginia Public Access Project<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiuax1f000r3b6nxshhqgd4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But the Virginia Police Benevolent Association, which endorsed Democratic gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger, called on him to decline to take office even if he wins.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiscuc500093b6n1j8dkvki@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThe VAPBA has not endorsed Jay Jones in this election. Mr. Jones is now on the ballot for statewide office, and voting is already underway. Even if he were to withdraw, his name would remain, and he could still win the election. Voters now have the full picture of Mr. Jones\u2019 character and must weigh that information carefully as they cast their ballots,\u201d a statement reads.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiscuc5000a3b6ngf894f26@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cIf he were to win, he should decline to take office. Leaders cannot serve effectively when their own conduct has undermined their credibility,\u201d the statement continues.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiscuc5000b3b6nvqyh2rxf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            CNN has reached out to the Jones campaign for comment.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiscuc5000c3b6n5zl0rnyn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Spanberger has touted the PBA\u2019s endorsement, four years after the group backed Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin. The PBA this year endorsed Jones\u2019 opponent, incumbent Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiscuc5000d3b6nvy2c1bzj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            In a 2022 exchange between Jones and Republican Virginia Delegate Carrie Coyner, Jones griped about how the then-Republican speaker of the House of Delegates Todd Gilbert was paying tribute to a former moderate Democratic lawmaker who died, according to screenshots of text messages first reported by the National Review and obtained by CNN.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiscuc5000e3b6ncy3obctz@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThree people, two bullets. Gilbert, hitler, and pol pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,\u201d the text reads in part, referring to Gilbert and the two dictators.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiug67v000t3b6n4unrnldj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n             The National Review reported that Jones tried to call Coyner after she objected to his language. He went on to say in the text messages that Gilbert and his wife are \u201cbreeding little fascists\u201d in reference to Gilbert\u2019s children, the National Review reported.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiscuc5000f3b6nkewik2kr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Many Democrats have sharply criticized Jones and denounced political violence but have not called on him to withdraw.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgiscuc5000g3b6nlg54mkv4@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI\u2019m supporting the team,\u201d US Sen.
