Uruguay\u2019s Luc\u00eda Garibaldi entered the world of cinema with the coming-of-age film The Sharks (Los tiburones, 2019), which won the World Cinema Dramatic Directing Award at Sundance. <\/p>\n

Her second feature, A Bright Future (Un futuro brillante, 2025), won Tribeca\u2019s Viewpoints Award and opens the fifth annual edition of San Antonio\u2019s Raza C\u00f3smica film festival, which includes movies from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Scotland, the United Arab Emirates and, yes, the United States. <\/p>\n

A Bright Future is a slow-burning, dystopian sci-fi drama centered around \u201cthe North,\u201d a mysterious destination for those living in a place without dogs and where youth is almost extinct. <\/p>\n

The film offers a subtle critique of capitalism that explores whether it\u2019s worth going to \u201cparadise,\u201d but not in the usual, cliched way \u2014\u00a0for good or bad, you won\u2019t forget the \u201csmell dance.\u201d <\/p>\n

A Bright Future is a magical journey aided by clever visuals and solid performances by its cast. <\/p>\n
