The teardown specialists at iFixit have taken apart Meta\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidauthority.com\/meta-ray-ban-display-3598809\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$800 augmented reality specs<\/a> and found cutting-edge optical engineering, but not much thought for repairability.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifixit.com\/News\/113543\/theres-groundbreaking-waveguide-tech-inside-metas-800-ar-glasses-but-dont-count-on-fixing-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iFixit\u2019s teardown<\/a>, every component of the glasses is sealed tight, with the entire frame glued and no easy way to replace the most obvious wear-out part: the battery. The teardown revealed a 960mWh battery, but the process of reaching it required specialist tools and a dose of luck to avoid damaging the delicate ribbon cable underneath. iFixit did say that \u201cbattery repair isn\u2019t totally impossible here, provided you can get your hands on a replacement battery (which Meta hasn\u2019t yet made available).\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"e_Ug\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"iFixit Meta Ray Ban Display Teardown 1\"  alt=\"iFixit Meta Ray Ban Display Teardown 1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/iFixit-Meta-Ray-Ban-Display-Teardown-1-scaled.jpg\"\/><img class=\"e_Ug\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"  title=\"iFixit Meta Ray Ban Display Teardown 2\"  alt=\"iFixit Meta Ray Ban Display Teardown 2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/iFixit-Meta-Ray-Ban-Display-Teardown-2-scaled.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Inside, the hardware is as impressive as it is inaccessible. The Snapdragon AR1 chip, paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, handles the computing work, while a micro-projector in the right arm beams images through a specialized geometric waveguide embedded in the lens. The speakers are soldered in, the lenses are glued to the fragile waveguide assembly, and even the hinges took some figuring out to disassemble. iFixit points out that an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.androidauthority.com\/ip-ratings-explained-746306\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IPX4 rating<\/a> doesn\u2019t justify the amount of glue used, calling it \u201coverkill\u201d for something you\u2019d only want to wear in light rain anyway.<\/p>\n<p>The teardown is an interesting glimpse into the good and the bad of AR tech. As impressive as the technology is, it seems that longevity isn\u2019t yet part of the equation.
