FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 Fresno Unified educators and staff will soon be offered an early retirement.<\/p>\n

The Fresno Unified School Board passed a motion to move forward with a supplemental retirement plan.<\/p>\n

The board says it’s a way to reduce expenses while honoring long-time employees.<\/p>\n

The district plans to offer the one-time plan to about 1,900 employees who meet the specific requirements.<\/p>\n

They must be 55 or older and have worked for the district for at least five consecutive years.<\/p>\n

It’s not just teachers being offered the deal but also classified employees like bus drivers and cafeteria workers.<\/p>\n

According to the Fresno Teachers Association, employees who accept the deal will get 80 percent of their salary over the next five years.<\/p>\n

The district says they’ll have more details on how many employees plan to take the deal in December.<\/p>\n

They will then vote on whether to approve or rescind the plan.<\/p>\n
