ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) \u2014 South College-Asheville hosted a demonstration of its new AI-enabled simulation “manikins<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

It is the latest technology in healthcare education.<\/p>\n

The lifelike “manikins” enable healthcare students to gain experience in patient care with simulators.<\/p>\n

NEW CLINICAL SIMULATION CENTER AT MISSION HOSPITAL AIMS TO ENHANCE PATIENT CARE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

They mimic human movement and verbal responses.<\/p>\n

In this afternoon’s demonstration, the senior nursing students were simulating a seizure.<\/p>\n

The advanced simulators can answer medical history and assessment-related questions, follow voice commands and help the students learn.<\/p>\n

An instructor says this technology is far different than what she used when she was learning.<\/p>\n

“I can tell you when I learned, my first time listening to lung sounds was on a real patient, so you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re listening to,” said BSN program coordinator Dr. Chelsea Clark. “When I learned, I started an IV on an orange, not on an arm that actually gives blood return. So, they really have a huge advantage of having real-life scenarios before they step into the real world.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
