That\u2019s when Deng sprang into action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife, was a professional doctor before, just rushed to the lady,\u201d Wang said.<\/p>\n<p>Deng performed the Heimlich maneuver and saved the child\u2019s life.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/national.jpg\" alt=\"For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.<\/p>\n<p>Since moving to Canada last year, Deng has been working towards her goal of becoming a licensed doctor in her new home. In China, she was a general practitioner.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was a doctor in China for 13 years and I want to be a doctor in Canada,\u201d Deng said.<\/p>\n<p>However, there are several barriers for international doctors to become licensed in Canada, including a language proficiency test.<\/p>\n<p>She has already started the process to practice in a country facing a doctor shortage.<\/p>\n<p>Ty Speer, the CEO St John Ambulance for B.C. and Yukon, says that instances like this reinforce the need for everyone to become First Aid Certified.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Canada<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main thing about first aid is you want to be prepared. You never know when something\u2019s going to happen,\u201d he said. \u201cIt could be something very serious, it could be something minor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speer says that the training and certification gives people the confidence to be helpers in their neighbourhood. Because, not everyone is lucky enough to have a doctor walk by when a medical emergency is happening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny serious blockage to an airway is very, is a very, very serious matter in a couple of minutes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s something that needs to be resolved straight away.
