{"id":291712,"date":"2025-10-10T10:31:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T10:31:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/291712\/"},"modified":"2025-10-10T10:31:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T10:31:10","slug":"israeli-military-says-ceasefire-agreement-in-gaza-started-nbc-7-san-diego","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/291712\/","title":{"rendered":"Israeli military says ceasefire agreement in Gaza started \u2013 NBC 7 San Diego"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A ceasefire agreement between<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/tag\/israel-hamas-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Israel and Hamas <\/a>for the Gaza Strip came into effect at noon local time, the Israeli military said Friday, adding that troops were withdrawing to agreed-upon deployment lines. <\/p>\n<p>The announcement came hours after\u00a0Israel\u2019s Cabinet approved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/news\/national-international\/israel-hamas-exchange-hostages-prisoners-gaza-peace-plan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">President Donald Trump\u2019s plan<\/a> for a ceasefire\u00a0in the Gaza Strip, the release of the remaining hostages and of Palestinian prisoners.<\/p>\n<p>Palestinians reported heavy shelling in parts of Gaza throughout Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli Cabinet&#8217;s approval of Trump&#8217;s plan marks a key step toward ending\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/live\/israel-hamas-updates-10-8-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a ruinous two-year war<\/a>\u00a0that has destabilized the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>A brief statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s office early Friday said the Cabinet approved the \u201coutline\u201d of a deal to release the hostages, without mentioning other aspects of the plan that are more controversial.<\/p>\n<p>An Israeli security official, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the withdrawal, said the military would control around 50% of Gaza in their new positions.<\/p>\n<p>Shelling continues through early hours<\/p>\n<p>After the Cabinet approval, Gaza residents reported intensified shelling well into Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>In central Gaza\u2019s Nuseirat refugee camp, Mahmoud Sharkawy, one of the many people sheltering there after being displaced from Gaza City, said artillery shelling intensified in the early hours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shelling has significantly increased today,\u201d said Sharkawy, adding that low flying military aircraft had been flying over central Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>In northern Gaza, two Gaza City residents told The Associated Press that bombing had been ongoing since the early hours, mostly artillery shelling.<\/p>\n<p>The managing director of Shifa hospital, Rami Mhanna, said the shelling in southern and northern Gaza City had not stopped following the Israeli Cabinet\u2019s approval of the ceasefire plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is confusing, we have been hearing shelling all night despite the ceasefire news,\u201d said Heba Garoun, who fled her home in eastern Gaza City to another neighborhood in the city after her house was destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the deal<\/p>\n<p>A senior Hamas official and lead negotiator made a speech Thursday laying out what he said were the core elements of the ceasefire deal: Israel releasing around 2,000 Palestinian prisoners, opening the border crossing with Egypt, allowing aid to flow and Israeli forces withdrawing.<\/p>\n<p>Khalil al-Hayya said all women and children held in Israeli jails will also be freed. He did not offer details on the extent of the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Hayya said the Trump administration and mediators had given assurances that the war is over, and that Hamas and other Palestinian factions will now focus on achieving self-determination and establishing a Palestinian state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe declare today that we have reached an agreement to end the war and the aggression against our people,\u201d Al-Hayya said in a televised speech Thursday evening.<\/p>\n<p>To help support and monitor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-hamas-hostages-trump-peace-plan-e3d0ce091be56cc29207e566ff1603af\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the ceasefire deal<\/a>, U.S. officials said they would\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/mideast-gaza-israel-hamas-us-military-c19caf7b193dbb3bfaf056366f9e2369\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">send about 200 troops<\/a>\u00a0to Israel as part of a broader, international team.
