\n\tCountry singer Gavin Adcock<\/a> has spoken out against Beyonc\u00e9<\/a>\u2018s \u201cCowboy Carter,\u201d stating during a recent live performance \u201cthat shit ain\u2019t country music.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAdcock put Beyonc\u00e9 in the crosshairs after opining that \u201cCowboy Carter\u201d was ahead of other records on the Apple Music country charts. \u201cOne of them\u2019s Beyonc\u00e9, you can tell her we\u2019re coming for her fuckin\u2019 ass,\u201d he said. \u201cThat shit ain\u2019t country music and it ain\u2019t ever been country music and it ain\u2019t gonna be country music.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAdcock, who was nominated for new male artist of the year at the 2025 Academy of Country Music Awards, later posted a follow-up<\/a> on social media explaining the reasoning behind his words for \u201cCowboy Carter,\u201d which took home album of the year at the Grammys in February.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI\u2019ma go ahead and clear this up,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen I was a little kid, my mama was blasting some Beyonc\u00e9 in the car. I\u2019ve heard a ton of Beyonc\u00e9 songs and I actually remember her Super Bowl Halftime Show being pretty kick-ass back in the day. But I really don\u2019t believe her album should be labeled as country music. It doesn\u2019t sound country, it doesn\u2019t feel country, and I just don\u2019t think that people that have dedicated their whole lives to this genre and this lifestyle should have to compete or watch that album just stay at the top just because she\u2019s Beyonc\u00e9.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBeyonc\u00e9 previously explained<\/a> that the idea for \u201cCowboy Carter\u201d came to her after she went through an experience where she did \u201cnot feel welcomed\u201d by the country music establishment. \u201cIt was born out of an experience that I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed\u2026 and it was very clear that I wasn\u2019t,\u201d she said on social media. \u201cBut, because of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of Country music and studied our rich musical archive.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShe was likely referring to her performance of \u201cDaddy Lessons\u201d at the Country Music Association Awards in 2016 alongside the group then known as the Dixie Chicks. Even after she released \u201cCowboy Carter\u201d and broke several records with the album, she was shut out of nominations for that same show, sparking a backlash against the institution.<\/p>\n

\n\tAdcock, meanwhile, is gearing up for the release of his new album \u201cMy Own Worst Enemy\u201d on August 15. He\u2019s next slated to open for Morgan Wallen on four of the singer\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m the Problem Tour\u201d in Miami Gardens and Toronto.<\/p>\n
