CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/08\/middleeast\/israel-hamas-dead-hostages-return-intl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously reported<\/a> that the Israeli government has, for months, been aware that Hamas may not know the location of, or is unable to retrieve, the remains of some of the deceased hostages.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgkv2ith002l3b6qt5lqwwea@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            More than two years after Hamas and its allies kidnapped 251 people from Israel and took them to Gaza, 47 hostages remain in the enclave, with at least 20 believed to be alive. We only have a lower number.\u2019 So it might be that there are some families, including mine, that do not have closure,\u201d he said.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgkw09mg000a356qfarhoe86@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Itay, a dual US-Israeli citizen, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/03\/12\/us\/itay-chen-dual-us-israel-citizen-killed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">presumed dead<\/a>, but his father has previously said that his son remains a hostage even in death.
