EVA Air launched nonstop flights between DFW Airport and Taipei, Taiwan, Oct. 3, initially flying three times per week<\/a> between the two airports, with the service expected to go daily in December.<\/p>\n

Chris McLaughlin, the airport\u2019s CEO, highlighted the new service during the airport board\u2019s regular monthly meeting Oct. 2.<\/p>\n

Another international carrier, Cathay Pacific will move to daily service in December, up from four flights a week. Cathay Pacific provides nonstop service between DFW and Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific services the route with the Airbus A350-1000 widebody.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the airport announced<\/a> a partnership with Taiwan-based EVA Air to begin service in October. EVA Air flies the route with the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner widebody.<\/p>\n

McLaughlin emphasized that every widebody carrier brought into DFW results in approximately $300 million per year of economic impact to the DFW area.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He cited discussions at a Routes World<\/a> conference in Hong Kong at the end of September as crucial to cementing the new agreements.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McLaughlin shared the news of the Sept. 18, 2025, passing of Brian McKinney<\/a> who served as DFW Airport fire chief from 2007-2023. He described McKinney as someone who leaned into crisis situations, and said he spent the better part of his career maintaining a focus on aviation safety.<\/p>\n

McKinney was instrumental in building what McLaughlin called the \u201cworld\u2019s best fire training research facility\u201d at the airport, adding that \u201cunder his leadership, the Fire Training Research Center<\/a> grew as a global leader.\u201d It has trained more than 37,000 firefighters across the globe, across 48 states, 54 countries and six continents, according to the center\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

McLaughlin relayed a story about a 2022 flight emergency in Costa Rica that resulted in a crash landing. Because of specific training at DFW, the firefighting team in Costa Rica positioned itself in a way that prevented it from being impacted when the aircraft veered off the runway on its attempted landing. \u201cFour firefighters lived that day because of Chief McKinney\u2019s vision, and they will forever be grateful,\u201d McLaughlin said.<\/p>\n

Prior to asking for a moment of silence, McLaughlin addressed the family members in attendance. \u201cPlease know the incredible impact your husband and father had, not just here at DFW but around the world.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last month, DFW Airport completed its annual FAA safety inspection which resulted in zero findings, a first since 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cFAA inspectors looked at 250 million square feet of pavement, 22,000 lights, 1,000 lighted signs, and 8,000 gallons of paint poured across 2 million square feet of runways and taxiways,\u201d McLaughlin said before praising all the airport employees who work to ensure the safety of DFW\u2019s airfield.<\/p>\n

By vote, the board approved $109.7 million of expenditures this month, focused primarily on enhancing airport security, replacing failed or end-of-life equipment, and construction management services. Full details of each item can be found in the meeting agenda<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Also approved was a 20-year lease extension for Bear Creek Golf Club<\/a>, which has been operating on DFW Airport property since 1986. Under the terms of the extension, the airport will receive 7% of the golf course\u2019s gross revenues.\u00a0<\/p>\n
