President Donald Trump<\/strong> embarked on a puzzling digression at the White House on Friday, declaring that a pro golfer in attendance is \u201csomebody that saves lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump spoke to reporters hours after he was disappointed to learn that he was not awarded<\/a> the Nobel Peace Prize. Instead, the honor went to Venezuelan activist Mar\u00eda Corina Machado<\/strong>, who reportedly received a congratulatory phone call<\/a> from Trump. Allies of the president portrayed the decision as a snub of Trump, particularly after he announced the early phases of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, the person who actually got the Nobel prize called today called me and said, \u2018I\u2019m accepting this in honor of you because you really deserved it,’\u201d Trump said. \u201cA very nice thing to do. I didn\u2019t say, \u2018Then give it to me,\u2019 though. I could have. I think she might have. She was very nice. And I\u2019ve been, you know, I\u2019ve been helping her along the way. They need a lot of help in Venezuela. It\u2019s a basic disaster.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI\u2019m happy because I saved millions of lives, many millions of lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump has repeatedly \u2013 and dubiously<\/a> \u2013 claimed he has ended at least seven wars since January.<\/p>\n

Around this time, Trump apparently noticed PGA golfer Keegan Bradley<\/strong> on hand. Bradley was captain<\/a> of the U.S. Ryder Cup team that lost to the Europeans in last month\u2019s contest:<\/p>\n

And speaking of somebody that saves lives, don\u2019t ever play golf with him because Keegan Bradley just walked in. One of the greatest golfers in the world, the captain of the Ryder Cup [team]. And man, I\u2019ll tell you, you did a good job. You almost came back. I turned on, I said, you know, I sort of turned off. It wasn\u2019t looking good. And then a little while later, I turned on. I said, you guys might make it. That would\u2019ve been the miracle.<\/p>\n

What a great job. He\u2019s respected by those golfers like nobody. And I just want to compliment you, Keegan. Was an incredible job right here. We have a lot of unfriendly fake news media, but\u2013 and he\u2019s not used to that. He\u2019s used to getting only good publicity, I think. These are all golfers, but you\u2019re some golfer, I\u2019ll tell you that. And some leader.<\/p>\n
