{"id":293925,"date":"2025-10-11T06:05:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T06:05:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/293925\/"},"modified":"2025-10-11T06:05:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T06:05:10","slug":"harvey-weinstein-nyc-jurors-claim-they-were-threatened-to-convict-movie-mogul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/293925\/","title":{"rendered":"Harvey Weinstein NYC jurors claim they were threatened to convict movie mogul"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two of the jurors who voted to convict Harvey Weinstein claim they were bullied into doing so by others on the jury and regret their decision, according to the disgraced movie mogul\u2019s lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>The pair of jurors, in sworn affidavits included in a Tuesday court filing from Weinstein\u2019s attorneys, allege they were screamed at and threatened by their peers during the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/12\/us-news\/harvey-weinstein-gets-mistrial-on-rape-charge-after-jury-foreperson-threatened\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chaotic <\/a>deliberations that resulted in Weinstein convicted on one of three charges in June. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI regret the verdict,\u201d the unidentified juror said in the affidavit. \u201cWithout the intimidation from other jurors, I believe that the jury would have hung on the Miriam Haley charge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Harvey Weinstein appears in a NYC court during his retrial in June 2025. Steven Hirsch<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein, 73, was convicted of criminal sex act for assaulting TV and film production assistant and producer Miriam Haley in 2006. <\/p>\n<p>He was acquitted on a second criminal charge involving Polish psychotherapist and former model Kaja Sokola. A <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/12\/us-news\/harvey-weinstein-gets-mistrial-on-rape-charge-after-jury-foreperson-threatened\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mistrial<\/a> was declared on the most severe rape charge of former actress Jessica Mann.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I could have voted by secret ballot, I would have returned a not guilty verdict on all three charges,\u201d one juror\u2019s affidavit reads, Bloomberg <a href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/new-york-brief\/weinsteins-bid-to-toss-conviction-says-jurors-voted-out-of-fear?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The juror claimed fellow panel members screamed: \u201cWe have to get rid of you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When the foreperson asked for civility, another juror got in his face, pointed a finger at him and threatened, \u201cYou don\u2019t know me. I\u2019ll catch you outside,\u201d according to the affidavit. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I arrived home, I called two family members and told them to come look for me if they didn\u2019t hear from me, since something was not right about this jury deliberation process,\u201d one of the juror affidavits states.<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein, 73, was convicted of criminal sex act for assaulting TV and film production assistant and producer Miriam Haley in 2006. Steven Hirsch<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was so afraid of the repercussions and feared for my physical safety that I ultimately voted with the majority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the juror affidavits alleged that one panel member accused a fellow juror of accepting bribes from Weinstein.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That allegation \u201cshifted deliberations from an even 6-6 split to a sudden unanimous verdict,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>At the trial in June, the jury deliberations were marked by <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/06\/us-news\/playground-drama-in-jury-room-threatens-to-derail-harvey-weinsteins-ny-sex-crimes-retrial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cplayground drama\u201d infighting<\/a> that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/12\/us-news\/harvey-weinstein-gets-mistrial-on-rape-charge-after-jury-foreperson-threatened\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spiraled out of control<\/a> \u2014 with the foreman of the jury telling the court that he was bullied and that another juror had threatened him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSometimes jury deliberations become heated. I understand this particular deliberation was more heated than some others. That\u2019s unfortunate,\u201d Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber said before finding a mistrial on the rape charge.<\/p>\n<p>Two jurors disputed the foreman\u2019s accounts after the trial, the Associated Press reported.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/12\/us-news\/harvey-weinstein-retrial-jurors-dish-on-dramatic-deliberations-trash-sneaky-foremans-closed-door-moves-after-surprise-mistrial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Juror No. 10 dished to The Post<\/a> about the foreman of the unruly jury.<\/p>\n<p>At the trial in June, the jury deliberations were marked by \u201cplayground drama\u201d infighting that spiraled out of control \u2014 with the foreman of the jury telling the court that he was bullied and that another juror had threatened him. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything he did was sneaky,\u201d Chantan Holmes-Clayborn said outside Manhattan Supreme Court after the trial ended.<\/p>\n<p>Weinstein was convicted of sexual assault at his second New York trial in June after an earlier verdict was overturned on appeal.
