Three activists stripped to their underwear during a Maine school board meeting this week in protest of the district\u2019s policy allowing trans athletes to compete in women\u2019s sports. <\/p>\n
The morally-tinged burlesque show, spearheaded by local activist Nick Blanchard, unfolded in Augusta on Wednesday in front of the city\u2019s school board members, according to the outlet\u00a0Central Maine<\/a>.<\/p>\n Two women and a man slowly and perfunctorily took off their clothes at the close of Augusta School Department meeting as Blanchard, who goes by the name \u201cCorn Pop,\u201d delivered an impassioned monologue.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m about to show you guys how uncomfortable it is for girls,\u201d Blanchard said as the women disrobed.<\/p>\n Local activist Nick Blanchard organized the strip protest of the school board continuing their trans athlete policy. Because that\u2019s what these young girls feel like when a boy walks into their locker room and starts unchanging in front of them. That\u2019s what these young girls feel like every time a young boy changes in front of them.\u201d<\/p>\n The stunt drew a range of responses from the school board members, some outraged, a few averting their gaze, while others were entirely unbothered. <\/p>\n \u201cThis is Maine\u2019s capital,\u201d Blanchard continued. \u201cWe should be setting an example for the rest of the state. You know what example you guys are setting? That we do not care about the young girls in the rest of the state.\u201d<\/p>\n The two female activists stripped to their skivvies in an effort to make the school board feel uncomfortable. CTV7 Augusta<\/p>\n Following the protest going viral locally, Blanchard said more than 150 people have contacted him in support of his stance on the Title IX policy, Central Maine reported.<\/p>\n \u201cDo I think these tactics work in a way of changing policy? Probably not,\u201d Blanchard told the outlet. \u201cBut the only way to get them to listen to us is to do something crazy and get in the national spotlight.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n The Augusta school board voted in favor of their current policy which adheres to the Maine Human Rights Act. That law allows a student athlete to participate on the team that corresponds with their gender identity, WGME<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n Two women and one man took off their clothes in support of adopting President Donald Trump\u2019s Title IX policy. CBS 13 News<\/p>\n President Trump signed an executive order in February aimed at keeping biological men out of women\u2019s sports through Title IX. <\/p>\n The Maine demonstration comes on the heels of a similar\u00a0stripping protest in California<\/a>.<\/p>\n Local mom Beth Bourne, who chairs group Moms for Liberty, undressed down to her underwear at a Davis Joint Unified School Board meeting on Sept. 18 to protest the allowing of transgender students to use girls\u2019 locker rooms.<\/p>\n
