Taking to Instagram, she said, \u201cLately, my Instagram feed has just been <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/lifestyle\/food-wine\/nutrition-expert-lists-20-foods-that-have-more-protein-than-eggs-10116027\/\" class=\"\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">protein<\/a><\/strong> propaganda. Every reel is like, \u2018Do you even exist without protein?\u2019 I can\u2019t even watch a cat video without some guy jumping in and saying, \u2018 Your cat is shedding\u2026 lack of protein\u2026 \u2018Apparently, if I don\u2019t eat 200 grams of protein a day, I will just collapse from protein shame.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adding that the general perception is \u201cprotein fixes everything,\u201d she continued: \u201cBad skin? Protein. Tired? Protein. Unemployed? Have you tried protein? Now my food feels so judged\u2026Whenever I eat dosa, where is the protein? Probably <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/lifestyle\/food-wine\/fermented-croissant-better-than-unfermented-bread-gut-health-expert-10280264\/\" class=\"\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">low protein<\/a><\/strong>. You didn\u2019t lose love\u2026.you lost muscle mass. My neighbour doesn\u2019t want to get married because she hasn\u2019t hit her protein target. Chicken, paneer, dal, whey \u2014 Apparently, your diet has to look like Noah\u2019s Ark of protein sources. At this point, I don\u2019t need a gym membership. While protein is a crucial nutrient for muscle repair, immunity, and overall health, most healthy adults require about 0.8 to 1 gram of protein per kilogram of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/lifestyle\/food-wine\/raw-onion-better-metformin-type-2-diabetics-experts-10266703\/\" class=\"\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">body weight<\/a><\/strong> per day; active individuals or those over 50 may need modestly more, but regularly exceeding 2 grams per kg per day may pose risks to kidney function and metabolic health for the average person,\u201d said Malhotra.<\/p>\n<p>For most people, a regular Indian diet with a mix of dals, dairy, nuts, and variety in whole foods suffices, said Malhotra, stressing that protein shakes and supplements are \u201crarely necessary unless directed for medical or athletic reasons\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>According to Malhotra, routinely consuming more than double the standard recommendation (over 2 g\/kg\/day) is \u201cunnecessary for the majority and could be counterproductive in the long run, leading to digestive, kidney, or vascular problems\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" style=\"background: #FFF;border: 0;border-radius: 3px;margin: 1px;max-width: 540px;min-width: 326px;padding: 0;width: calc(100% - 2px)\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DPNZSKGiuUR\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\">\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cTrends may change, but the fundamentals \u2014 balance, moderation, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/lifestyle\/food-wine\/divya-khosla-kumar-diet-eat-vegan-no-sweets-expert-10254686\/\" class=\"\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">critical thinking<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 matter more.
