Federal offices and courts will be closed.

But the state of California does not observe Columbus Day or Indigenous People’s Day as a state holiday, so criminal and civil courts will remain open on seemingly limited schedules. Schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District will also be open.

The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver regular mail on the holiday, and post offices will be closed.

Buses, rail services and Metrolink trains in Los Angeles run on a regular schedule.

The holiday was first officially celebrated in L.A. in 2018, after the City Council and L.A. County Board of Supervisors voted to replace Columbus Day.
