The form includes instructions on how to locate and inspect the pipe that connects a home to the water meter, along with the option to upload photos to help the city verify the material. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">City officials say Dallas\u2019 water continues to meet all state and federal safety standards. In 2024, about 50,000 letters were sent to residents whose service line material was unknown, followed by more than 92,000 additional letters, The Dallas Morning News reported. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><b>No level of lead exposure is safe <\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The most common sources of lead in drinking water are lead pipes, faucets and plumbing fixtures. Household plumbing fixtures, welding solder and pipe fittings made before 1986 also may contain lead. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/laws-regulations\/summary-safe-drinking-water-act\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1986, the Safe Drinking Water Act<\/a> banned the use of lead-based solder in the U.S. for plumbing that supplies water for human consumption.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/lead-prevention\/php\/news-features\/updates-blood-lead-reference-value.html#:~:text=There%20is%20no%20safe%20level,based%20on%20the%20child&#039;s%20age.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">No level of lead exposure is safe for humans<\/a>. Exposure to lead can seriously harm a child\u2019s health and result in damage to the brain and nervous system, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Property owners are responsible for the private portion of the service line \u2014 the section that runs from the meter to the home.
