{"id":294632,"date":"2025-10-11T12:27:26","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T12:27:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/294632\/"},"modified":"2025-10-11T12:27:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T12:27:26","slug":"houston-isd-superintendent-mike-miles-touts-retention-rate-among-high-performing-teachers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/294632\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston ISD Superintendent Mike Miles touts retention rate among high-performing teachers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.houstonisd.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Houston ISD<\/a> Superintendent Mike Miles said the district is retaining more highly-rated teachers compared to teachers who scored lower on the district\u2019s teacher rating scale, according to a Sept. 29 news release.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some context<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes after officials <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/houston\/bellaire-meyerland-west-university\/education\/2025\/03\/21\/houston-isds-new-teacher-evaluation-system-to-implement-pay-for-performance-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">approved a new teacher evaluation system<\/a>, dubbed the Teacher Excellence System, in March. Officials noted the data included in the Sept. 29 news release was collected in the 2024-25 school year using the district\u2019s old evaluation system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A closer look<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to the news release, teacher performance was broken down into six categories, with &#8220;Exemplary I&#8221; marking the highest rating and &#8220;Unsatisfactory&#8221; representing the lowest rating. According to the release, the district retained:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>89% of its teachers rated &#8220;Exemplary I&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>88% of teachers rated &#8220;Proficient II&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>85% of teachers rated &#8220;Proficient I&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>75% of teachers rated &#8220;Progressing II&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>50% of teachers rated &#8220;Progressing I&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>20% of teachers rated &#8220;Unsatisfactory&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Per the release, 701 of 791 teachers who received &#8220;Exemplary I&#8221; ratings were retained by the district in the 2025-26 school year.
