PHOENIX \u2014 The Maricopa County Association of Governments is asking for public input on lessening the bottlenecks on Loop 101 and Loop 202 where the two highways intersect.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryday, more than 307,000 vehicles travel through Tempe along the Loop 101 from U.S. 60 and the Loop 202,\u201d Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said in a release. \u201cThis is a vitally important transportation route for our community. The purpose of this study is to find ways to reduce traffic delays and make commutes safer for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

The study<\/a> will be taking into account the existing and future conditions of U.S. 60, Loop 101 and Loop 202 in Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa.<\/p>\n

It will provide recommendations and focus on design and other strategies.<\/p>\n

Officials expect the study to be completed in two years.<\/p>\n

Funding for the study was approved by voters through Prop 479<\/a>, which was approved in last November\u2019s general election.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs we continue to attract jobs and industry to the region, the number of vehicles on the roadways will only increase,\u201d noted Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman.<\/p>\n

Freeman said there are an average of four crashes every day in the area, something that can he believes can change with smart planning.<\/p>\n
