{"id":294798,"date":"2025-10-11T13:56:03","date_gmt":"2025-10-11T13:56:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/294798\/"},"modified":"2025-10-11T13:56:03","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T13:56:03","slug":"noreaster-to-whallop-nyc-with-intense-rain-and-flooding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/294798\/","title":{"rendered":"Nor&#8217;easter to whallop NYC with intense rain and flooding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Big Apple could be underwater as the work week begins, with <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/10\/us-news\/nj-declares-state-of-emergency-as-noreaster-poses-costal-flooding-threat\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an intense nor\u2019easter <\/a>expected to sock the city this weekend with significant rain and strong winds.<\/p>\n<p>Forecasters say the storm could dump between 1.5 to 3 inches of precipitation throughout the five boroughs beginning Sunday night and continuing into Monday \u2014 but officials are warning the total amounts could be much higher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe combination of persistent, strong onshore winds, high surf and high astronomical tides may lead to some East Coast communities experiencing\u00a0significant coastal flooding impacts,\u201d the National Weather Service warned.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend\u2019s storm could usher in flash flooding similar to the storm that socked the region in July. REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>New Yorkers living in low-lying zones and on the coast should prepare for flooding the likes of which <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/14\/us-news\/flash-flooding-across-tri-state-area-prompts-road-closures-subway-delays-in-nyc-state-of-emergency-in-nj\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">filled basements and subways rapidly in July.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Communities along southern Brooklyn, southern Queens, the eastern shore of Staten Island, and the Bronx shoreline are at greatest risk for flooding and storm impact, the city\u2019s Emergency Management warned.<\/p>\n<p>The rainfall was forecasted to start as a trickle throughout the day Saturday before gearing up after 8 a.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>New Jersey has been placed under a state of emergency.  FOX Weather<\/p>\n<p>By Sunday evening, rain could be a constant presence, while winds reach 23 mph with gusts as high as 41 mph, <a href=\"https:\/\/forecast.weather.gov\/MapClick.php?x=117&amp;y=189&amp;site=okx&amp;zmx=&amp;zmy=&amp;map_x=116&amp;map_y=189\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the NWS said.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>That forecast will stay steady throughout the day Monday, only easing up into evening hours.<\/p>\n<p>Coastal Flood Watches are in effect from Sunday through Monday as 12\u201315-foot waves could mean some areas could see tides reach 2\u20134 feet above normal \u2014 meaning significant beach erosion and dune breaching is possible for coastal communities. <\/p>\n<p>Up to three inches of rain is expected to douse the Big Apple.
