Fort Worth has a new reason to get spooky this Halloween \u2014 and it\u2019s wearing Broadway sequins. Jay Armstrong Johnson<\/a>, a Fort Worth native and six-time Broadway veteran, is bringing home the 10th anniversary of his cult-favorite spectacle, “I Put a Spell on You” (IPASOY). But this isn\u2019t just a viewing party \u2014 it\u2019s a full-throttle celebration and a fundraiser<\/a> for the Ali Forney Center, the nation\u2019s largest provider of life-saving services for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness.\u00a0<\/p>\n

IPASOY first hit New York City a decade ago as a Halloween homage to “Hocus Pocus,” and since then, it has grown into a wild, high-energy mashup of Broadway vocals, pop-rock theatrics, and dance-floor chaos. Each year, this celebration brings together Broadway performers, recording artists, and designers for a one-night-only spectacle, with the real magic happening offstage, in the lives of the youth the show supports.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis show grew up with me,\u201d Johnson says. \u201cBringing the 10th anniversary home to Fort Worth \u2014 where I learned to dream, perform, and create \u2014 feels exactly right. It\u2019s a party, yes, but it\u2019s also a lifeline for kids like I once was.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The hometown ties run deep. Sarah (Allison Godleski) and Mary (Amanda Williams Ware), two of the Sanderson Sisters, have been IPASOY veterans for all ten years. Born and raised in Fort Worth, they now lead indie-folk and rock projects across the country \u2014 and for this anniversary, they\u2019re bringing their energy, charm, and local pride to the stage. Alongside more than twenty other cast and crew members with Fort Worth roots, the evening is a celebration of the city\u2019s creativity and community spirit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Williams Ware, who\u2019s also producing the Fort Worth event, adds, \u201cWe\u2019ve done this for ten Halloweens, even through COVID, and the most magical part is the community it builds. Fort Worth always shows up with heart and talent, and that translates into a sensational show that gives safe beds and free meals to young people who\u2019ve been turned out of their homes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
