\u201cSpeaking of somebody that saves lives, don\u2019t ever play golf with him because Keegan Bradley just walked in,\u201d the president told reporters at White House press conference on Friday, after spying the Team USA Ryder Cup captain at the door.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat a great job. He\u2019s respected by those golfers like nobody, and I just want to compliment you, Keegan, was an incredible job right there,\u201d Trump went on, apparently in reference to Keegan\u2019s performance at this year\u2019s tournament, held toward the end of last month, at which the U.S. lost out to Team Europe 15-13.<\/p>\n

He did not clarify under what circumstances exactly the pro-golfer may have \u201csaved lives\u201d in the past.<\/p>\n
The president\u2019s comments came just hours after his administration learned he had not, despite a concerted and highly publicised campaign, been named this year\u2019s recipient of perhaps the most coveted prize on the planet.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s aides have since accused the Nobel Committee of playing \u201cpolitics over peace\u201d by choosing to instead grant the award to exiled Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. <\/p>\n
In its official release, the panel said Machado had kept \u201cthe flame of democracy burning amidst a growing darkness,\u201d which many observers took as a jab at Trump given his increasingly authoritarian tendencies since assuming office for the second time earlier this year.<\/p>\n
As a right-wing political figure, Machado has publicly praised Trump in the past, thanking him for his \u201cdecisive support\u201d for Venezuela\u2019s democracy. At his Friday press conference, Trump claimed to have spoken with Machado since the award was announced, and that she\u2019d been similarly blindsided by the news. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo the person who actually got the Nobel prize called today, called me and said, \u2018I\u2019m accepting this in honor of you because you really deserved it,\u201d the president said. \u201cA very nice thing to do. I didn\u2019t say, \u2018Then give it to me,\u2019 though. I could have. I think she might have.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was very nice. And I\u2019ve been, you know, I\u2019ve been helping her along the way.
