The onslaught was the latest in <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/sudan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sudan\u2019s more than two-year war<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The Sudan Doctors\u2019 Network, a group of medical professionals tracking the war, says at least 14 children and 15 women were among the dead in the attack late Friday by <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/sudan-abu-shouk-camp-rapid-support-forces-6363c206aa5844002c812af99c656f24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Rapid Support Forces<\/a>, or RSF, on the city of el-Fasher. <\/p>\n<p>The attack also left 21 people wounded, including five children and seven women, the group said. Most of the wounded suffered serious injuries, it said.<\/p>\n<p>The attack targeted al-Arqam Home, a shelter for displaced families in el-Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur, the group said. The shelter is located at the Omdurman Islamic University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis massacre represents a continuation of the scorched-earth policy practiced by the Rapid Support Forces against civilians, in flagrant violation of all international norms and laws,\u201d the medical group said.<\/p>\n<p>The RSF did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Mashad Organization, a rights group, described the attack as \u201cone of the most atrocious massacres\u201d since the RSF began its offensive on the city more than a year ago, and said it amounted to an \u201cact of genocide carried out before the yes of a silent world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>El-Fasher has for months the epicenter of the fighting between the Sudanese military and the paramilitaries. The city is the military\u2019s last stronghold in Darfur.<\/p>\n<p>The paramilitary forces, who have regularly bombed the city, imposed a total blockade in July. The United Nations and other aid groups warn that 260,000 civilians remain trapped in the city after most of its population fled RSF attacks. Residents of el-Fasher are also suffering from hunger and disease outbreaks, including <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/cholera-msf-darfur-war-army-rsf-tawila-20ea1a76da02e2b82b78fbcc14712b46\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cholera<\/a>, according to the U.N.<\/p>\n<p>Sudan plunged into chaos when simmering tensions between the military and the RSF exploded into <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/sudan-civil-war-two-year-anniversary-affaf351d8c0db5a3f704035d0ddac2a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">open fighting in April 2023<\/a> in the capital of Khartoum and elsewhere.
