Clemson head basketball coach Brad Brownell<\/a><\/strong> set his sights on one big for this high school recruiting class, and he got him.<\/p>\n

Davidson (N.C.) Day four-star Will Stevens<\/a><\/strong> announced his commitment to Clemson on Saturday afternoon during a ceremony at his school.<\/p>\n

Stevens (6-9, 200) is ranked the nation\u2019s No. 95 overall prospect by Rivals<\/strong> as well as the top recruit in North Carolina.<\/p>\n

He also held offers from Virginia, N.C. State<\/a>, South Carolina<\/a>, Texas Tech<\/a>, Vanderbilt<\/a>, Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, Iowa<\/a>, West Virginia<\/a>, Creighton, VCU, Davidson, Charleston and George Mason among others.<\/p>\n

Stevens entered the fall with official visits set to Clemson, Vanderbilt and South Carolina, with Davidson and St. Mary\u2019s hovering on the periphery.<\/p>\n

Clemson attracted him first for a late August weekend in conjunction with the LSU<\/a> football opener. Vanderbilt got him at the end of September for its Utah State football game, and his South Carolina official was cancelled.<\/p>\n

Thus it came down to two.<\/p>\n

Brownell and staff have made a living developing stretch bigs with his skill set, and that logically factored prominently in the final verdict.<\/p>\n

As a junior, Stevens averaged 12 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game.<\/p>\n

Clemson signed four high-schoolers to go with its six transfers this past offseason.<\/p>\n

So the Tigers were going to be selective if they took any high-schoolers at all this cycle.<\/p>\n

The basketball signing period is one month away (Nov. 12-19).<\/p>\n
