Several city of Dallas<\/a> facilities and offices will be closed Monday in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day. <\/p>\n

Indigenous Peoples Day<\/a> is observed every year on the second Monday of October, which is the same day as Columbus Day, a national holiday that was first recognized in 1934 by former President Franklin D. Roosevelt.<\/p>\n

Former President Joe Biden first recognized Indigenous Peoples Day in 2021.<\/p>\n

What facilities will be closed?<\/p>\n

All city offices and libraries will be closed Monday. However, various library services, such as audiobook or streaming music, can be accessed 24\/7 at www.dallaslibrary.org<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Additionally, all recreation centers, including administrative offices and maintenance facilities, will be closed. <\/p>\n

The Office of Arts and Culture administrative offices, Bath House Cultural Center, Latino Cultural Center, Oak Cliff Cultural Center, and South Dallas Cultural Center will also be closed on Monday and return to normal operating hours Tuesday. The Juanita J. Craft Civil Rights House & Museum will be closed Monday and Tuesday and resume normal operations on Wednesday. <\/p>\n

The city Municipal Court, located at 2014 Main St., will also be closed. However, any payments can be made at www.dallascityhall.com<\/a>, and payments made by mail are being accepted with postmark dates honored.<\/p>\n

Dallas Water Utilities administrative and customer service offices will be closed, but customers can call 3-1-1 for emergency water service requests. <\/p>\n

What entities will still have operations?<\/p>\n

According to the city\u2019s website<\/a>, the 3-1-1 Customer Help Line will be operating and representatives will be available to take service-related calls, such as water main breaks, downed trees\/limbs, signal lights out\/down and animal control. <\/p>\n

Administration offices for animal services, police, Dallas Fire-Rescue and sanitation will be closed. <\/p>\n

However, the animal shelter will be open for normal business hours Monday, and animal services officers will respond normally to resident service requests made through 3-1-1, the city\u2019s website said.<\/p>\n

Police officers and fire personnel will operate on a normal schedule. <\/p>\n

Additionally, all sanitation collections, including recycling, garbage and brush\/bulky item collection, will proceed as scheduled. The McCommas Bluff Landfill and transfer stations will also remain open during regular hours for residential self-service disposal.<\/p>\n

Any other closures Monday?<\/p>\n

The United States Postal Service<\/a> and post offices will not be open Monday, as well as a majority of banks, such as Chase<\/a> and Bank of America. These closures are in observance of Columbus Day, however. <\/p>\n
