Salesforce<\/a> CEO Marc Benioff says America\u2019s tech capital has a police problem, and he\u2019s welcoming President Donald Trump\u2019s pitch to send National Guard troops to yet another Democrat-led city.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have enough cops, so if they can be cops, I\u2019m all for it,\u201d Benioff told<\/a> The New York Times on Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump has already sent troops to Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Memphis, but courts have blocked attempts to deploy troops to Chicago and Portland.<\/p>\n

In August, he mentioned he was considering sending troops to San Francisco, adding that Democrats had \u201cdestroyed\u201d the city and that his administration would \u201cclean that up, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Benioff told The Times the city is short about 1,000 police officers and believes National Guard troops could help reduce the city\u2019s crime.<\/p>\n

The mayor\u2019s office and the San Francisco Police Department didn\u2019t immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n

Despite Benioff\u2019s concerns, violent crime<\/a>, property crime, and homicides<\/a> in San Francisco have all fallen this year, and\u00a0 then-Mayor London Breed said in January the city\u2019s crime rate was the lowest since 2001<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But Benioff isn\u2019t convinced and will pay for hundreds<\/a> of off-duty law enforcement officers when Salesforce\u2019s annual Dreamforce conference starts Tuesday in downtown San Francisco, bringing 50,000 attendees to the city from over 140 countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you walk through San Francisco next week, there will be cops on every corner,\u201d he told the Times. \u201cThat\u2019s how it used to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Benioff thinks San Francisco needs to \u201cre-fund\u201d the police, the city has not defunded its police force, and its violent crime rates rank below rates of many other major cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, and New York.<\/p>\n

Still, the city has had trouble recruiting and retaining officers, and struggles to contain lower-level crimes and open-air drug use.<\/p>\n

Tech and Trump<\/strong><\/p>\n

Benioff\u2019s comments come as he and other tech executives have been cozying up to the president since his re-election.<\/p>\n

A few weeks ago, Benioff attended a state dinner<\/a> for Trump that was hosted by King Charles at Windsor Castle in England\u2014where he apparently spent the dinner telling the president \u201chow grateful I am for everything he\u2019s doing,\u201d he told The Times.<\/p>\n

The owner of Time magazine, Benioff said he had been closely following news about immigration raids, Trump\u2019s push to redraw congressional districts before midterms, the government shutdown and Trump\u2019s attacks on the media, according to The Times.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe haven\u2019t been under attack,\u201d he said. \u201cWe provide accurate, balanced journalism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Time named Trump its \u201cPerson of the Year<\/a>\u201d last year, about a month after he won the presidential election.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Apple<\/a> CEO Tim Cook gifted Trump a 24-karat gold stand<\/a> during a visit to the Oval Office in August. Last month, the White House hosted a dinner for a long list of tech titans<\/a>, including Meta\u2019s Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft\u2019s Bill Gates. There, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told<\/a> Trump he was \u201ca very refreshing change.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
