{"id":297471,"date":"2025-10-12T14:26:11","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T14:26:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/297471\/"},"modified":"2025-10-12T14:26:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T14:26:11","slug":"susannah-scaroni-scores-epic-chicago-marathon-comeback-nbc-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/297471\/","title":{"rendered":"Susannah Scaroni scores epic Chicago Marathon comeback \u2013 NBC Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Susannah Scaroni returned to the top of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/sports\/chicago-marathon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bank of America Chicago Marathon<\/a> podium, cruising her way to a comeback victory after a flat tire kept her out of contention last year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/sports\/chicago-marathon\/2025-bank-of-america-chicago-marathon-wheelchair-elite-athlete-susannah-scaroni\/3834490\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scaroni<\/a>, who took an early lead and never looked back, finished just off course record time with an unofficial finish of 1:38:12. The course record in the women&#8217;s wheelchair event in Chicago was one hour and 38 minutes. <\/p>\n<p>Scaroni was battling a trio of past Chicago winners, including 2024 champ Catherine Debrunner, two-time victor Manuela Sch\u00e4r and nine-time winner Tatyana McFadden of the United States. Debrunner set the world record for women&#8217;s wheelchair in 2023 with a time of 1:34:16 in Berlin. <\/p>\n<p>Last year, Scaroni experienced a flat front tire three miles into the race, but fought her way back to finish in 12th place.<\/p>\n<p>She won the TCS New York City Marathon later that year and, since then, has placed second in the Tokyo Marathon and won the 2025 Bank of America Boston Marathon.
