{"id":298053,"date":"2025-10-12T19:40:44","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T19:40:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/298053\/"},"modified":"2025-10-12T19:40:44","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T19:40:44","slug":"officials-cut-the-ribbon-on-bayonne-vocational-school-named-after-county-executive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/298053\/","title":{"rendered":"Officials cut the ribbon on Bayonne vocational school named after county executive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Officials cut the ribbon on a Bayonne vocational school at their high school, part of the Hudson County Schools of Technology, named after County Executive Craig Guy during a ceremony yesterday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Craig-Guy-Center-e1760208975556.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-95056\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Craig-Guy-Center-e1760208975556.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"355\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>By Daniel Ulloa\/Hudson County View<\/p>\n<p>The new school will offer programs in mechanical, construction, finance, medical\/clinical, criminal justice, digital communications, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and cosmetology, alongside academic classes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did it, everyone smile! This project has been so special for everyone involved \u2026 It\u2019s built by union workers for future union workers,\u201d began Hudson County Commissioner Kenny Kopacz (D-1), who is also the deputy superintendent of schools in Bayonne.<\/p>\n<p>HCST Superintendent of Schools Tom Macagnano added that it would be 36,000 square feet of \u201cinnovation and opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a testament when vision meets action and partnerships meets purpose,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Macagnano said it would serve many students, further stating that the facility is LEED certified, so it\u2019s environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis building represents equity,\u201d Macagnano declared, noting the diversity of the student body: \u201cThe space is built for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bayonne Superintendent of Schools noted the collective effort it took to reach this point, with planning board approval received i<a href=\"https:\/\/hudsoncountyview.com\/bayonne-planning-board-approves-new-county-vocational-school-on-site-of-high-school-tennis-courts\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">n February 2022<\/a> and ground broken <a href=\"https:\/\/hudsoncountyview.com\/county-schools-of-technology-breaks-ground-on-new-bayonne-vocational-high-school\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in August 2023<\/a>, both as HCV first reported.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez (D-8) praised Guy and his service to the county.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing in Washington is hard: You see a government that doesn\u2019t work. Today is about government working. It\u2019s about building big things together. This is what government should be every single day. Students \u2026 will benefit from the work you are doing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, also the Democratic nominee for sheriff, noted that the project was 12 years in the making and he\u2019s excited to see local youth have the opportunity to work with their hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe more you can wake up a child and have him find what it is he really wants to do, then we did our job. It\u2019s our job to make they have everything they need to find out what they love. This is a great day for the city of Bayonne!\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson County Building Trades and Construction Council President Patrick Kelleher was happy the school was built with union labor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe partnership continues to stay strong. We continue to work together and support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During his remarks, Guy explained he was on the HCST board for nearly 20 years before becoming county executive, serving as board chair for many of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proudly the most diverse county \u2026 in the state. Not all our kids want to go to college. Some of our kids don\u2019t have the means to pay for college these days \u2026They do have an alternative \u2026 This is a bold vision to reinvigorate our students,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so happy that we have a woman that be leading the charge in Bayonne at this new trade school, If you\u2019re not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you. So, thank you everybody,\u201d he added to applause.<\/p>\n<p>Kopacz concluded the program by stating that it took a village to complete the project.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a little nerve-racking to have my name on a school that\u2019s going to affect so many lives,\u201d Guy told HCV.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did a lot of good things. We built that whole new school out in Secaucus.
