The three NFL trades completed this week, headlined by the Cleveland Browns sending Joe Flacco to the rival Cincinnati Bengals, are expected to be a sign of things to come ahead of the league\u2019s Nov. 4 trade deadline. In a copycat league where teams constantly are striving to improve, general managers already have begun exploring additional trades, and based on recent years, there could be at least another dozen to come, league sources told ESPN. Over the past six years, in the month of October leading up to the trade deadline, the NFL has had 88 trades — an average of just under 15 per year. The list of trade candidates that executives and coaches believe could be available in the next few weeks features multiple high-profile players, including Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Trey Hendrickson, Mark Andrews, Bradley Chubb, Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, Breece Hall, Cameron Jordan and Riq Woolen. These players\u2019 respective teams haven\u2019t necessarily made them available via trade, but sources believe they eventually could be.<\/p>\n

One thing that stood out in each of the last two games is that the opponents felt like the hungrier, more aggressive teams. Nick Sirianni has to figure out the right messaging to get his team back to playing with an edge. Maybe the 4-0 start on top of winning the Super Bowl softened the Eagles up. Losing two straight games should have everyone\u2019s attention. The worry now isn\u2019t about getting someone touches, but rather how do you get back to winning games. Sirianni didn\u2019t have the right answers in 2023 and that season spiraled out of control. He\u2019s won a SB since then and should be smarter after having gone through the lows of that season and the highs of last year. It will be interesting to see if Sirianni can get this team back on track. The first place to start is getting the Eagles to play to their core values: tough, detailed, together. That\u2019s been lacking this season and the results show that. Get back to those values and winning should follow.<\/p>\n
Let\u2019s start by taking a look at the Eagles\u2019 insane streak of getting blown out after halftime. Three games in a row now they\u2019ve been outscored by double digits in the second half \u2013 they hung on to beat the Bucs despite getting outscored 19-7 in the second half, then the Broncos outscored them 18-7 in the second half and on Thursday night the Giants had a 14-0 edge after halftime. This is the first time in 27 years and only the second time in 50 years they\u2019ve been outscored by 11 or more points in the second half of three consecutive games. Last time it happened was during the nightmarish 3-13 1998 season, when they got outscored 24-0 by the Seahawks in the second half at the Vet (and lost 38-0), then got outscored 17-3 in the second half in Atlanta (and lost 17-12) and then got outscored 17-3 in the second half by the Cards in Tempe (and lost by the same score). Last time it happened before that was 1972. The last NFL team with a winning record to get outscored by 11 or more points in the second half of three straight games was the 2017 Cowboys, a streak that included a 37-9 loss to the Eagles at AT&T Stadium.<\/p>\n

They will be hosting the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, and they won\u2019t know the status of two players until gameday morning. WRs Terry McLaurin (quad) and Noah Brown (groin) were ruled out earlier today by head coach Dan Quinn who said they just weren\u2019t there yet. McLaurin is missing his third straight game, while Brown has now missed the last four. Deebo Samuel didn\u2019t practice all week due to a vet rest day and a heel injury he\u2019s been dealing with since last week. Quinn said they would take it to Monday to determine whether he\u2019s good to go for their primetime game. Samuel missed two practices and still played last week. Quinn said he didn\u2019t think this would be a season-long issue, but they needed to manage it for now.<\/p>\n
Dallas Cowboys guard Tyler Smith is going to play on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, per ESPN\u2019s Todd Archer. Smith, who signed a long-term extension with the Cowboys a few weeks back, missed last Sunday\u2019s game on the road against the New York Jets. Technically speaking he suited up, but he has been dealing with an ankle issue and was only dressed for emergency purposes as the Cowboys have been down a number of offensive linemen to date. Thankfully, he did not have to enter the game and that likely helped him recover.<\/p>\n
Yes, less than 1 in 4 fans thought the Giants are headed in the right direction. That marked a new low on the season, down from the 27 percent confidence following the Giants\u2019 Week 1 loss to the Washington Commanders. At least, that\u2019s what the number was prior to Thursday Night Football. Then the Giants unleashed a 17-point drubbing of the reigning Super Bowl champions, beating their division rivals 34-17. The rout was so complete that the Eagles surrendered at the 2:00, letting the Giants finish out the game in the victory formation despite still being able to stop the clock. Fan confidence has varied pretty wildly this year, from a high of 92 percent following a dominant preseason, down to 27 percent, then spiking back up to 72 percent after the win over the Chargers.<\/p>\n
As expected, Thursday night\u2019s misadventures with the Jaxson Dart concussion evaluation have prompted the NFL to send all teams a written reminder about the requirements of the concussion protocol \u2014 and the potential consequences for violating it.
