{"id":298460,"date":"2025-10-12T23:23:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T23:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/298460\/"},"modified":"2025-10-12T23:23:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T23:23:16","slug":"pacoima-black-owned-barbershop-recognized-as-historical-landmark","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/298460\/","title":{"rendered":"Pacoima Black-owned barbershop recognized as historical landmark"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/6105F497C563A0BCE95A936BB6D82EA0.jpg\" alt=\"Black-owned barbershop recognized as historical landmark\" class=\"sr-only\" data-v-7a5d4fdb=\"\"\/>    <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\"><strong>LOS ANGELES<\/strong> &#8211; StylesVille Barbershop, the oldest Black-owned barbershop in the San Fernando Valley, has been officially recognized as a historic cultural monument by the City of Los Angeles and the Getty.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">The plaque was unveiled by owner Ollie Carter and her grandson, Gregory Faucett, at the shop on Van Nuys Boulevard in Pacoima.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KTTV\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">The backstory:<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">StylesVille Barbershop was founded in 1957 by Ollie and her husband, Freddy Carter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">It has remained a family-run business ever since.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">The Carters built a strong staff, including Colleen &#8220;Pal&#8221; Fonseca, a female barber who worked in a male-dominated industry and is still a close friend of Mrs. Carter.<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"KTTV\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">What they&#8217;re saying:<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Ollie Carter commented on the work it took to establish the business, stating, &#8220;little by little we just kept building and building, we finally got the shop. But it took a lot of work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Gregory Faucett, the head barber and grandson of the founders, said, &#8220;Everybody knows about StylesVille, we&#8217;ve been here too long. And it&#8217;s been a good thing, it has not been a bad thing. Everything about StylesVille is good.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Faucett also noted the role of the barbershop as a community hub, where people can relax and share stories, but he keeps his clients&#8217; stories private.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">&#8220;If these walls could talk.
