Michael Nagle<\/p>\n<p>Among the hordes of Jedi, caped-crusaders and armor-glad transformers \u2013 and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/25\/ticket-sales\/new-york-comic-con-2025-where-to-buy-tickets-lineup-best-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">celebrities from Sigourney Weaver to George R. R. Martin<\/a> \u2013 visiting Manhattan since Thursday was a parade of Disney princesses: including an Ariel in a ball gown made from a repurposed couch found at a church rummage sale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs soon as I saw it, I said \u2018this would be perfect for Ariel,\u2019\u201d said 25-year-old cosplayer Amanda Caswell, who spent a month sewing the glimmering pink-and-white creation. \u201cI was inspired by the couch fabric \u2013 it\u2019s super comfortable and easy to walk in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just love twirling around in a ballgown,\u201d the New Jersey native added. \u201cAriel\u2019s story is really beautiful: exploring new horizons \u2013 and I think that\u2019s what we all need to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Texas native-turned-Big Apple resident Caitlin Martin, 35, shows off her Sabrina Carpenter-inspired Cinderella costume. Michael Nagle<\/p>\n<p>Caitlin Martin, 35, spent her summer hand-applying rhinestones to heels and a matching towel bearing the New York Comic Con logo for a Sabrina Carpenter-inspired riff on her Cinderella costume.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe towel took me three weeks, the shoes took me ten hours each,\u201d the Astoria, Queens resident said \u2014 adding the getup cost her hundreds of dollars. \u201cI made the babydoll [dress] and the corset, too: for the wig, it\u2019s two wigs I sewed together.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI watched a lot of TV,\u201d she admitted, noting she just finished the sleeves for the baby blue baby doll dress Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though it\u2019s called Comic Con, it doesn\u2019t necessarily cater to comics,\u201d Will Damante Jr. of The Undisputed Comics King told The Post. Michael Nagle<\/p>\n<p>Will Damante Jr., who slings comic books as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecomicsking.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Undisputed Comics King<\/a>, noted that that the name Comic Con has become almost a misnomer in recent years. <\/p>\n<p>Now, more cosplayers are dressing up for Disney, \u201cSquid Game\u201d and other pop culture references.. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though it\u2019s called Comic Con, it doesn\u2019t necessarily cater to comics,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n<p>The longtime comics collector said that, while Comic Con is one his busiest days every year, economic concerns might\u2019ve caused many fans to hold back on big spending in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Attendees dressed as \u201cSquid Game\u201d characters from the hit Netflix show. Michael Nagle<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, New Milford, New Jersey residents Amanda and Fred Alvaro sported simpler looks \u2013 inflatable Godzilla and rival villain Mothra \u2013 on their eighth wedding anniversary weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cosplay is so fantastic,\u201d said Amanda, who has been attending with her husband since 2013. \u201cIt\u2019s really great to see how creative and imaginative some people can be \u2026 just to see some of the ideas that people come up with.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Four-legged cosplayer Benjie \u2014 a white German shepherd registered as a service dog to his owner Bre Azanedo \u2014 even donned a Krypto the Superdog cape for the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got him for a good cause, but it\u2019s not what he wants to do with his life,\u201d Azanedo, of New Jersey, said of attention-loving 1-year-old Benjie, who was rescued during a recent trip to San Diego Comic Con.<\/p>\n<p>Sean Cronin meets \u201cKrypto\u201d costume-wearing Benjie, a white German Shepard. Michael Nagle<\/p>\n<p>Downtown Manhattan gym owner Sean Cronin, who was one of Benjie\u2019s admirers Sunday morning, arrived to the convention in a Justice League-themed group costume featuring himself as Superman, his wife Elena Sokina as the Green Lantern and pals as Hawkgirl and Supergirl.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had the \u201cSuperman\u201d movie in the summer, so we figured this cosplay would be interesting: if you go too esoteric, no one really recognizes you,\u201d said 37-year-old Cronin of NYLO Fitness, who described his costuming as \u201cstore-bought\u201d with \u201caccoutrements.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, the husband-and-wife team has dressed up in group ensembles repping \u201cMad Max: Fury Road\u201d and the anime \u201cMy Hero Academia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou want to go as something that\u2019s of the moment,\u201d he added, \u201cso you can appeal to everyone.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"These outfits are super.
