WINCHESTER, Ind. \u2014 Ty Majeski claimed the winner\u2019s rifle in dominating fashion in winning the 54th\u00a0running of the Winchester 400.<\/p>\n
Majeski set fast time and started on the pole position Sunday in the ASA Stars National Tour event leading 350 of the 400 laps.<\/p>\n
He led the first 158 laps before being passed by defending race winner Cole Butcher following a restart following a competition yellow after 100 laps of green flag racing.<\/p>\n
Majeski reclaimed the point following a restart on lap 204 after Gavin Boschele made contact with the outside retaining wall and stopped on the front sttraight.<\/p>\n
The race was slowed only seven times for caution periods, but three in the final 100 laps with the leaders pitting for tires on lap 302 and lap 334.<\/p>\n
Blake Rowe elected to remain out on caution period, but was passed by Majeski on the restart.<\/p>\n
The final caution flag waved on lap 386 for debris setting up a 10-lap race to the checkers.<\/p>\n
Majeski was able to hold off Dawson Sutton on the final restart to win by 1.4 seconds with Butcher, Billy VanMeter and Stephen Nasse rounding out the top five.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to thank everyone for preparing this race car,\u201d Majeski said of his dominating performance. \u201cWinning the Winchester 400 is pretty cool. This is one track you need to win at.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a dream come true,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Sutton started fourth and ran with the lead pack the entire distance, passing Butcher the runner-up position with six laps remaining.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe car was really good all day,\u201d the Tennessee driver said. \u201cI just didn\u2019t get a good restart at the end.\u201d<\/p>\n
Butcher, the leader in the championship point standings, was looking at the bigger picture.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going for a championship,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was an impressive day; we had a pretty good race car.\u201d<\/p>\n
Eight drivers finished all 400 laps and there were 14 cars running of the 26 cars that started the race.<\/p>\n
