Long lines and multiple delays were seen at San Diego International airport Sunday as the government shutdown continues.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt looks pretty crowded,\u201d Kevin Thomas said.<\/p>\n
Travelers with destinations all across the country have been keeping a close eye on flight updates.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur flight was delayed coming out here and now it\u2019s delayed leaving here,\u201d Mark Scott said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were supposed to leave about 3:35, so we\u2019ve been getting pushed back and delayed,\u201d Thomas said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was set to leave at 5:15, now I\u2019m going to leave at 5:38pm,\u201d Kasey Schroeder said.<\/p>\n
The FAA said there has been increased staffing shortages across the system, slowing down traffic into some airports to ensure safe operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou just kind of have to trust that the people who are showing up really know how to do their job,\u201d Kasey Schroeder said.<\/p>\n
Thursday transportation secretary Sean Duffy threatened to fire \u201cproblem children,\u201d air traffic controllers who fail to show up for work during the government shutdown.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really frustrating I would say, it kind of gets annoying and then also our family plans got delayed also, and we had to figure out a new ride to get here,\u201d Leah Lindborg said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just going to relax a little bit, maybe get a bite to eat,\u201d Scott said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs long as there\u2019s somewhere to sit, I\u2019m pretty patient, as long as we don\u2019t get delayed until tomorrow,\u201d Thomas said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope it even makes it off the runway. I hope it doesn\u2019t get delayed more,\u201d Leah Lindborg said.<\/p>\n
