The Federal Aviation Administration ordered a ground delay at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport because of cloudy conditions in metro Phoenix.<\/p>\n
Tropical moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Priscilla brought wet and cloudy weather<\/a> to the region through the weekend, continuing into Monday.<\/p>\n Weather in the Northeast is also disrupting travel. A Nor’easter<\/a> brought strong winds, heavy rain and flooding across the Mid-Atlantic coast, delaying more than 1,000 flights nationwide.<\/p>\n Here’s what travelers should know if they’re traveling on Oct. 13.<\/p>\n Why are flights delayed today at Phoenix Sky Harbor?<\/p>\n Cloudy weather in metro Phoenix is delaying flights. The FAA ordered a ground delay at Sky Harbor on the morning of Oct. 13, in effect through 5:59 p.m. Monday.<\/p>\n Flights are delayed about 50 minutes on average, according to the FAA.<\/p>\n How many flights are delayed at Phoenix Sky Harbor?<\/p>\n As of 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 13, 322 flights were delayed at Sky Harbor but none were canceled, according to flight tracking website FlightAware<\/a>.<\/p>\n What is a ground delay?<\/p>\n The FAA can order a ground delay when flights destined for an airport experiencing adverse conditions must delay their takeoffs, according to the FAA.<\/p>\n It can also order a ground stop when it’s not safe for flights to take off or land at an airport.<\/p>\n The FAA does not cancel flights.<\/p>\n Nor’easter on East Coast also delaying flights<\/p>\n It’s not just wild weather in Phoenix disrupting flights on Oct. 13. Weather on the other side of the country is affecting travelers’ itineraries.<\/p>\n A Nor’easter storm that slammed the East Coast disrupted at least 1,000 flights nationwide. Flights to and from New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C. were among those affected.<\/p>\n Most major airlines are offering passengers the chance to rebook their travels without paying fare differences or change fees, or receive refunds if they choose not to travel.<\/p>\n American Airlines<\/a> will rebook passengers at 17 affected airports for travel by Oct. 15 if they rebook their travel by Oct. 13.<\/p>\n Southwest Airlines<\/a> will rebook passengers at 13 affected airports for travel within the next 14 days.
