Forget Facebook,\u201d Young, 79, <a href=\"https:\/\/neilyoungarchives.com\/news\/1\/article?id=Amazon%20No\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote in an Oct. 8 post<\/a> on his Neil Young Archives website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuy local. Buy direct. Bezos supports this government. It does not support you or me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cHeart of Gold\u201d singer added: \u201c[Amazon] needs you to buy from them. Don\u2019t. They shut down our government your income your safety your family\u2019s health security. Take America Back together, stop buying from the big corporations support local business. Do the right thing. Show who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neil Young is taking his music off of Amazon because, he says, \u201cJeff Bezos supports this government.\u201d  AP<\/p>\n<p>Social media backlash to the politically driven Amazon exit was swift. X users were slamming the announcement on Monday, calling the move Young\u2019s latest grab at relevance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDude is a kook. It\u2019s sad what\u2019s happened to him. He used to be amazing,\u201d wrote @DenifLewesa.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Neil Young accused Amazon founder Jeff Bezos of supporting President Trump  AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho is buying his music anyway?,\u201d said @leslieedwardsre. \u201cHe\u2019s a has been who only gets attention when he pulls his music from Spotify and now Amazon. Nobody cares if Neil Young removes his music.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And dredging up Young\u2019s old feud with Leonard Skynyrd over Young\u2019s 1970 song \u201cSouthern Man,\u201d many users adjusted a line from Skynyrd\u2019s \u201cSweet Home Alabama\u201d: \u201cI hope Neil Young will remember a Southern man don\u2019t need him around, anyhow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Social media users slammed Young over the move. Steven Garcia\/NurPhoto\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>Young threw a similar fit back in 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/01\/26\/spotify-sides-with-joe-rogan-removes-neil-youngs-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">when he yanked his music from Spotify <\/a>in protest of Joe Rogan\u2019s podcast being on the platform. The folk-rock legend<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/01\/31\/neil-young-offers-free-amazon-music-amid-spotify-boycott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> returned <\/a>in 2024. <\/p>\n<p>During the Spotify boycott, Young actually offered fans free subscriptions to Amazon Music \u2014 the same streaming service he\u2019s now abandoning.<\/p>\n<p>Young also left Spotify in 2022 in protest of Joe Rogan\u2019s podcast. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>This August, he pulled down his official Neil Young Facebook page because of the company\u2019s use of AI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Neil Young\u2019s request, we are no longer using Facebook for any Neil Young related activities,\u201d a post on the platform read. \u201cMeta\u2018s use of chatbots with children is unconscionable.
