JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013<\/strong> Dolphin defender Paula Herranz<\/a> was named the Atlantic Sun’s women’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday<\/a>.<\/p>\n Herranz’s honor by the ASUN marks the fourth time this season a Jacksonville player has won a conference weekly award, joining Manuela Restrepo<\/a>, Alicia Rey Perez<\/a> and Layla Garcia-Moreno<\/a>.<\/p>\n While being a stalwart defender for the Jacksonville defense, Herranz had a career week in the offensive category against Stetson and FGCU.<\/p>\n When the Hatters came to town<\/a>, Herranz notched her first goal of the season and recorded her second assist of the year. Her assist was her first in ASUN play.<\/p>\n In terms of overall shot attempts, Herranz led the game against Stetson with a season-high five shots and led the game with a season-high trio of shots on goal. Thanks to Herranz’s opening goal in her team’s 2-0 shutout win, Jacksonville won its second straight conference game and recorded its third conference clean sheet.<\/p>\n Against the Eagles in a highly contested 1-1 draw<\/a>, Herranz played the second most minutes by a JU position player with 84. This season, Herranz has eclipsed 70 minutes or more in eight games. The junior from Spain also recorded a shot on goal.<\/p>\n Herranz has started and played in all 14 of the team’s games this season. She has been an integral part in Jacksonville’s defense which has allowed the third fewest goals overall in the ASUN and the fourth fewest overall during conference play.<\/p>\n Jacksonville (8-4-2, 5-1-1) returns to play Sunday, Oct. 19 at home against UNF in the second edition of the River City Rumble. Kickoff for the rematch game — after Jacksonville’s thrilling 2-1 win over the Ospreys earlier in the season<\/a> — starts at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n Herranz and Lipscomb’s London De Fini split the weekly honor.
