(WCAX) &#8211; A popular hiking and skiing welcome center in the Adirondacks that closed in August is now up for sale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A new property listing shows the Cascade Welcome Center in Lake Placid for sale.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/adk.org\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/adk.org\/\">Adirondack Mountain Club<\/a> Executive Director Cortney Worrall said they\u2019re asking around $2.8 million for the welcome center.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">That\u2019s $300,000 more than what the club bought it for in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Worrall said the decision to sell will allow the organization to focus on its <a href=\"https:\/\/adk.org\/property\/heart-lake-program-center\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/adk.org\/property\/heart-lake-program-center\/\">Heart Lake Program Center<\/a> and educational services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt does have to do with the prospect of long-term funding. It has to do that we are a nonprofit, we are not a for-profit ski center or for-profit organization. I think that plays a major role,\u201d Worrall said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She said they will return $20,000 in grant funding back to the state once a sale goes through.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">This means that the property is now off limits to hikers, skiers and walkers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WCAX.
