a criminal complaint that was obtained by KCRG<\/a>, Banks got into an altercation with staff at a bar called ReUnion Brewery near the University of Iowa campus in Iowa City. Police were called to the scene at around 1:15 a.m. Sunday morning, and Banks was arrested.<\/p>\nBanks was charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Police say he refused to submit to a breathalyzer test.<\/p>\n
The Iowa Athletic Department issued a statement on Monday addressing Banks\u2019 arrest.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe UI Athletics Department and men\u2019s basketball program are aware of Tavion Banks\u2019 citation over the weekend. He is subject to established university protocol regarding the UI Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, and the rules and regulations set for members of the men\u2019s basketball program,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n
Banks transferred to Iowa this year following a productive season at Drake. The 22-year-old averaged 10.1 points and 5.0 rebounds while playing just 20.1 minutes per game. Banks helped lead Drake to a 31-4 record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where they beat 6-seed Missouri in the first round.<\/p>\n
Banks, who won the MVC Sixth Man of the Year award last season, transferred to Iowa after former Drake coach Ben McCollum was hired as the new coach of the Hawkeyes.
