{"id":301625,"date":"2025-10-14T03:44:18","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T03:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/301625\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T03:44:18","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T03:44:18","slug":"zohran-mamdani-at-a-raucous-rally-argues-hes-leading-a-movement-beyond-the-nyc-mayors-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/301625\/","title":{"rendered":"Zohran Mamdani, at a raucous rally, argues he\u2019s leading a movement beyond the NYC mayor\u2019s race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpy9d10001z2cntfrs2g1oy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Declaring that he is leading a \u201cmovement that won the battle over the soul of the Democratic Party,\u201d Zohran Mamdani used a raucous rally with over 3,000 supporters in Manhattan\u2019s Washington Heights on Monday night to assert his mayoral campaign as proof of a politics much bigger than his bid for City Hall.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd00023b6nnpxpr7xk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The Democratic nominee and proud democratic socialist, who almost overnight after his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/06\/25\/politics\/zohran-mamdani-new-york-mayor-takeaways\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">surprise primary win<\/a> in June became a national superstar, has a wide lead in the polls. And though many who rallied for him on Monday to kick off the final stretch into November stressed to the crowd that they can\u2019t take the election for granted, the candidate used his own time at the microphone to urge them to see what they are doing as rebutting what he repeatedly referred to as the \u201cdarkness\u201d of President Donald Trump\u2019s administration and the half-measures of years of Democratic leadership.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd00033b6nc2rz0waj@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cOver the last nine months, we have watched the man with the most power in the world expend enormous energy targeting those with the least,\u201d Mamdani said. \u201cOur movement is a movement where we know exactly who and what we are fighting for. We are not afraid of our own ideas. For too long we have tried not to lose. Now it is time that we win.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd00043b6nhn64gw7f@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Mamdani connected what he is trying to force out of the Democratic Party to a tradition of forcing bigger change out of other moments that seemed hopeless to the organizers.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd00053b6nz0h2e1n3@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cThe same questions asked of us were asked of organized labor, were asked the civil rights movement, were asked of any who had the nerve to demand a future they could not yet see. Could they not wait? Could they see that they were asking too much?\u201d Mamdani said. \u201cThey knew that we do not get to determine the scale of the crisis that we face. We only get to decide how we respond.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd00063b6nsg54337s@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Mamdani only mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/08\/politics\/andrew-cuomo-nyc-mayor-mamdani\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Cuomo<\/a>, the former governor who lost to him in the primary but is running against him on an independent line, to slough him off as either the same as Trump or the same as years of failed Democratic thinking. That\u2019s about as much mention as Cuomo got at the event, which also featured appearances from WNBA star Natasha Cloud and former Federal Trade Commission chair Lina Khan, beyond mocking like Brooklyn city councilman Chi Oss\u00e9 calling him that \u201csad, sad, Rumpelstiltskin-like figure.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p>       <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/2025-10-14t020208z-508143325-rc2bbhaelt9m-rtrmadp-3-usa-election-new-york-mayor.JPG\" alt=\"Supporters of Zohran Mamdani attend his campaign rally in New York City, on Monday.\" class=\"image_large__dam-img image_large__dam-img--loading\" onload=\"this.classList.remove('image_large__dam-img--loading')\" onerror=\"imageLoadError(this)\" height=\"2667\" width=\"4000\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd00073b6n9mxgrmmp@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Mamdani\u2019s sights were set beyond the election, ripping into the billionaires who he said had described him as an \u201cexistential threat\u201d to New York.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd00083b6negni7woq@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI am here to admit something: They are right,\u201d Mamdani said, to cheers. \u201cWe are an existential threat to billionaires who think their money can buy our democracy. We are an existential threat to a broken status quo that buries the voices of working people beneath corporations. And we are an existential threat to a New York where a hard day\u2019s work isn\u2019t enough to earn you a good night\u2019s rest.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd00093b6nojr10c7z@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            But Mamdani clearly sees those existential threats as not limited to just New York.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd000a3b6npxhnxb8x@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe are living in the times that we read about. I know that for many of us, when we look back at moments in history that rhyme with today, where tyranny loomed and the state-imposed violence with sinister glee. We ask ourselves what we would have done. We need not wonder. That time is now,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I am proud to look out onto this crowd at New Yorkers who amidst this despair have continued to believe in a world better than this.\u201d\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd000b3b6ngir1nrtx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Mamdani wasn\u2019t the only one to use the night to address national politics. Letitia James, the New York state attorney general <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/09\/politics\/letitia-james-grand-jury-trump-indictment\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">indicted <\/a>last week at Trump\u2019s urging, entered the theater to a two-minute standing ovation in what was her first public appearance since the president\u2019s former personal lawyer brought charges against her.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd000c3b6ndhxdmrge@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            For a few seconds, she held her fist in the air in resistance.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmgpyadcd000d3b6nys3o0kdk@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cI stand on solid rock. I will not bow, I will not break, I will not bend, I will not capitulate,\u201d James said. \u201cYou come for me, you got to come through all of us. All of us.
