K\u00fcnstler Brewing\u2019s Hemisfair location is the latest casualty of San Antonio\u2019s long-delayed downtown construction, owner Vera Deckard told the Current on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The brewpub\u2019s final day of operation will be Sunday, Oct. 19, Deckard said, adding that construction around South Alamo Street, which is two years behind schedule, is primarily to blame for the closure.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we signed our lease, Hemisfair told us that the construction would never be in front of somebody\u2019s doorstep for more than two weeks,\u201d Deckard said. \u201cIt\u2019s been in front of our door for three years. There\u2019s just no pedestrian access, and we have these amazing hotels right across the street from us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The South Alamo project was supposed to wrap up last year. However, \u201cunforeseen utility work\u201d delayed the project\u2019s completion until sometime next year, San Antonio Development Services Director Michael Shannon recently told the Current<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Shannon maintained that the area around Hemisfair is safe and accessible to pedestrians. However, Deckard said that isn\u2019t the case.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIn order for [guests at the Plaza and Kimpton] to get across the street, they have to go across East Cesar Chavez, and then they have to get across South Alamo and walk a little further down, and then they\u2019ve got to cross Cesar Chavez again and then walk through the park,\u201d she said. \u201cLong story short, Hemisfair has not been very helpful in dealing with the city.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deckard isn\u2019t alone in her frustration with the city\u2019s inability to wrap up construction on South Alamo. Box Street Social owner Daniel Trevini\u00f1o recently told the Current his revenue is down up to 40% some weeks due to the construction.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although K\u00fcnstler\u2019s Hemisfair location is closing, the brewery\u2019s original spot at 302 E. Lachapelle St. remains in business. That location is open 2-10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, from noon-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n
