{"id":302056,"date":"2025-10-14T07:31:16","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T07:31:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/302056\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T07:31:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T07:31:16","slug":"embattled-ny-ag-letitia-james-defiant-in-first-appearance-since-indictment-i-will-not-bow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/302056\/","title":{"rendered":"Embattled NY AG Letitia James defiant in first appearance since indictment: \u2018I will not bow!\u2019\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/10\/us-news\/ny-ag-letitia-james-admitted-virginia-home-at-center-of-bank-fraud-indictment-was-investment-property\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James<\/a> was defiant Monday in her first public appearance since being hit with federal charges over allegations she committed bank fraud and lied to a financial institution to obtain a lower mortgage rate.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe see powerful voices trying to silence truth and punish dissent and weaponize justice for political gain,\u201d James told supporters of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/13\/us-news\/ny-pols-celebrate-israeli-hostages-return-a-new-chapter-of-lasting-peace\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zohran Mamdani<\/a> at a rally for the New York City mayoral frontrunner in Washington Heights.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are witnessing the fraying of our democracy, the erosion of our system of government,\u201d the Empire State\u2019s top prosecutor argued, describing the current state of politics as \u201ca defining moment in our history.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani (L) greets New York Attorney General Letitia James (C) during a rally in Washington Heights, New York on Oct. 13, 2025.  AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>James, who is facing <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/10\/us-news\/how-indicted-ny-ag-letitia-james-will-pay-for-her-legal-defense-which-could-cost-up-to-10m-experts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">60 years behind bars<\/a> if convicted of the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/09\/us-news\/ny-ag-letitia-james-indicted-over-mortgage-fraud-claims-source\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two charges against her<\/a>, called on rally-goers to \u201cstand together to defend our rights.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo protect every safeguard, every institution, every immigrant, every norm and every rule of law,\u201d the indicted prosecutor continued.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know what it feels like to be attacked for just doing your job,\u201d James said. \u201cBut I also know what it feels like to overcome adversity. And so I stand on solid rock.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not bow! I will not break! I will not bend! I will not capitulate! I will not give in! I will not give up!\u201d she screamed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou come for me, you got to come through all of us! Every single \u2013\u00a0 all of us. We\u2019re all in this together.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Amid her legal woes, James said that \u201cover the last few days\u201d she\u2019s \u201csummoned\u201d the \u201cstrength\u201d and \u201ccourage\u201d of her ancestors.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>James, who is facing 60 years behind bars if convicted of the two charges against her, called on rally-goers to \u201cstand together to defend our rights.\u201d\u00a0 Paul Martinka<\/p>\n<p>She vowed to \u201ckeep fighting the aggressive policies of Washington, DC\u201d and reiterated that she won\u2019t \u201cgive up\u201d or \u201cgive in.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI fear no man,\u201d James declared.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The raucous crowd gave James a standing ovation when she took the stage and at the conclusion of her remarks, and chanted, \u201cWe love Tish!
