When Gustav informs her that he intends to shoot a film in their family home and wants her to star in the project, Nora declines the offer. The part ends up being played by the American actress Rachel Kemp (Elle Fanning). In the trailer, Fanning asks Reinsve why she didn\u2019t accept the role. Reinsve replies: \u201cMy father is a very difficult person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe film won the Grand Prix at Cannes Film Festival, where it received a 15-minute <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/sentimental-value-palme-buzz-cannes-ovation-1236391955\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">standing ovation<\/a> and a positive critical response. Variety film critic Peter Debruge <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/reviews\/sentimental-value-review-aafeksjonsverdi-1236405810\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> that \u201cthis layered family-centric drama (which was also written by Eskil Vogt) shares its ability to find fresh angles on sentiments you\u2019d think that cinema would have exhausted by now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe cast also includes Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, who plays Nora\u2019s sister Agnes, Cory Michael Smith and Anders Danielsen Lie. Trier got emotional during the Cannes ovation, sharing in his speech that the people involved in \u201cSentimental Value\u201d \u201cstruggled for years\u201d in bringing it to fruition. \u201cWhat\u2019s that Bu\u00f1uel quote? \u2018I make films for my friends\u2019? I feel you\u2019re all my friends tonight,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNeon will be <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/awards\/joachim-trier-sentimental-value-release-date-neon-oscar-campaign-1236421386\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">campaigning<\/a> the film for Oscar consideration. \u201cThe Worst Person in the World\u201d also premiered at Cannes in 2021, and Reinsve picked up the festival\u2019s best actress honor. The film ended up earning Oscar nods for best international feature film and best original screenplay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cSentimental Value\u201d opens in limited release Nov. 7 before expanding to more theaters around Thanksgiving.
