ImagesAlycia Parks loses her seventh match in a row as her struggles continue

Someone who knows what it is like to be compared to Serena Williams is 24-year-old American Alycia Parks, who won her maiden WTA title in 2022.

Parks has a career-high ranking of world number 40, but has struggled to find form in recent months.

This continued at the WTA 250 tournament in Osaka, Japan, where Parks lost in the first round to qualifier Dalma Galfi.

Parks has now lost seven consecutive matches, with her last win coming at the Monterrey Open, where she reached the semifinals.

Perhaps even more concerning for Parks is that she has not won a single set in any of these seven matches, which includes a heavy defeat to Mirra Andreeva at the US Open where she won just one game.

Parks is currently the world number 66, but the average ranking of the opponents who have beaten her on this losing streak is 95.

As a result of her recent poor form, Parks risks a big drop down the rankings, with 296 points still to defend this year after a strong end to the season in 2024.

Tournament

WTA Player who beat Alycia Parks

Ranking of Alycia Parks’ Stubbs once compared Alycia Parks to Serena Williams

Parks has found her best career results on indoor hard courts, which is where she won her only WTA title to date.

Indoor hard courts tend to favour players with bigger serves, which is certainly something that Parks possesses.

After Parks won her first career title at the Lyon Open in 2022, former doubles world number one Rennae Stubbs compared her to Serena Williams and claimed she could become a Grand Slam champion.

“Her serve is, I’m telling you, when they’re coming at me… Oh my god, it’s like Serena peak, that’s how good her serve is when it goes in,” Stubbs said on her podcast at the time.

“I’m telling you, she’s a potential top-10 player within the next 12 months. She’s got to keep, obviously, the body healthy. She’s a strong girl, really wants it, she has a great head on her shoulders.

“I think she’s a great talent and there’s a great upside for her. She has every power tool in the world, and without question can be a Grand Slam champion one day if she keeps putting the work in. She is good, really good.”

Parks will be hoping that she can rediscover this kind of form some time soon, with big ranking points to defend this year.

The American has a busy upcoming schedule, with two more WTA 250 tournaments in Asia, before she is set to head back to the States for a WTA 125 event in Austin.

Follow us on Google Discover Not many WTA players can say they have been compared to Serena Williams…

[48
154080,5224,62,1464,67,132,68,2212
0":"post-303520","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-tennis","8":"tag-alycia-parks","9":"tag-serena-williams","10":"tag-sports","11":"tag-tennis","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-unitedstates","14":"tag-us","15":"tag-wta
["GET
