Companies blame AI for 7,000 job cuts in September, according to new report. <\/p>\n

Outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas tracked 7,000 jobs<\/a> that were cut due to AI in September, according to a new report. That\u2019s not including the more than 20,000 roles eliminated due to technological advancements, many of which could also include AI. <\/p>\n

The number of AI-related cuts in just one month is a sharp increase from earlier in the year, as Challenger reported just over 10,000 layoffs<\/a> across the first seven months of 2025. <\/p>\n

So what should you do if you think your job could be on the AI chopping block? Start by using the technology\u2014whether at your current job to become a \u201csuperworker<\/a>\u201d or to preemptively start your next job search. Then make sure you are keeping your personal finances in order<\/a>, writes senior contributor Caroline Ceniza-Levine. And keeping an eye out for these six \u201cred flags\u201d<\/a> is also a good practice to help spot a layoff before it happens, writes contributor Bryan Robinson. <\/p>\n

Athletes are influencers in their own right. But one social media platform that you might not expect to see them post is LinkedIn, which is usually reserved for corporate America. But these sports professionals are keeping fans updated on their roles where they are at. <\/p>\n

New role announcements are LinkedIn\u2019s bread and butter. You log into the platform and expect to see a slew of \u201cPersonal News\u201d or \u201cNew Job Alert\u201d posts. What\u2019s not as expected: those posts coming from professional athletes. <\/p>\n

Take the example of Chase Priskie, a minor league hockey player who broke the news<\/a> that he\u2019d joined a Russian professional team on the professional networking platform. <\/p>\n

Why? All because of a Business 101 class in college, where Priskie\u2019s first assignment was to make a LinkedIn page, as he told The Athletic. <\/a><\/p>\n

Priskie isn\u2019t the only one. Last year, Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton famously announced<\/a> his move to Scuderia Ferrari on LinkedIn, tagging the post #newjob. He also lists his business endeavors\u2014CEO of Lewis Hamilton Ventures, investor at Perplexity AI and founder of Almave\u2014under his experience tab. <\/p>\n

Other athletes-turned-entrepreneurs also favor LinkedIn for updates on their businesses. L.A. Clippers point guard Chris Paul, for example, announced<\/a> the launch of his production company on Linkedin in May. British swimmer and Olympic medalist Matt Richards posted<\/a> that he was \u201cfinally giving LinkedIn the attention it deserves\u201d earlier this year. And soccer sensation Alex Morgan announced<\/a> she was going from player to investor of the San Diego Wave on the platform. <\/p>\n

After reports that American troops would go without pay amid the government shutdown, President Donald Trump clarified<\/a> on Saturday that they will receive their paychecks on October 15.<\/strong> Nearly 1.3 million military members have worked without pay since the start of the shutdown, as they are deemed to be essential for national security. <\/p>\n

An increasing number of white collar workers are unionizing across industries<\/strong>, reports the Washington Post.<\/a> Between concerns about AI taking over jobs and sudden layoff notices, American bankers, lawyers and tech workers are turning to unions in their search for work stability. <\/p>\n
